The flexibility of the XCP-DS FIT universal digital sensor holder from DENTSPLY Rinn allows the user to create a custom fit for their sensors. The self-adjusting clip stretches to fit each sensor. In addition, the holders fit both size 1 and size 2 sensors, reducing inventory.
The manufacturer describes the sensor holders as having silicone-cushioned edges that aid in patient comfort and prevent sensor cover perforations. Because the XCP-DS FIT digital sensor holders can be autoclaved, the cost per use is lowered.
DENTSPLY Rinn has color-coded the holders for ease of identification. Anterior holders are blue, posterior holders are yellow, endodontic holders are green, and bitewing holders (both horizontal and vertical) are red.
Sixteen dentists and hygienists participated in this Dental Product Shopper evaluation of XCPDS FIT universal sensor holders, rating and commenting on such features as ease of loading and placing sensors, patient comfort, sensor security, and positioning accuracy.
Ease of Loading and Placing Sensors
According to DENTSPLY Rinn, because the XCP-DS FIT is stretchy, it reduces loading time during digital radiography procedures. When asked to rate the ease of loading and placing the XCP-DS FIT, 9 evaluators rated it as excellent, 3 rated it as very good, 3 rated it as good, and 1 rated it as fair. All of the evaluators noted that ease of loading and placing is an important factor when considering the purchase of a sensor holder.
The evaluators were also asked to rate the self-adjusting clip that enables the XCP-DS FIT universal sensor holder to fit both size 1 and 2 sensors. Ten evaluators rated this feature as excellent, 5 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good.
Six evaluators said ease of loading and placing was their favorite feature of this sensor holder. A hygienist from Danvers, MA, with 12 years of experience said, ?I loved how the self-adjusting clip made loading the sensor quick.? An evaluator who said she would definitely purchase and recommend the XCP-DS FIT said, ?My favorite feature is the ease of sensor placement.?
Patient Comfort
Silicone cushioning has been added to the edges of the XCP-DS FIT sensor holders to ensure patient comfort. Nine evaluators rated patient comfort as excellent to very good, 4 rated it as good, and 3 rated it as fair.
Several evaluators noted that they found the sensor holder to be bulky, with one of these evaluators noting, ?But this is inherent with all digital sensors.?
Sensor Security and Accurate Positioning
DENTSPLY Rinn describes the XCP-DS FIT as having a rigid sensor support that keeps sensors positioned accurately. When asked about the importance of sensor security and accurate positioning, all of the evaluators said these features are important when choosing a sensor holder.
Four evaluators rated sensor security as excellent, 8 rated it as very good, 2 rated it as good, and 2 rated it as fair. When asked about accurate positioning when using XCP-DS FIT, 4 evaluators rated the sensor holder as excellent, 7 rated it as very good, 4 rated it as good, and 1 rated it as fair.
Overall Satisfaction
Thirteen of the evaluators said they would definitely or probably recommend the XCP-DS FIT universal sensor holder to colleagues and purchase it in the future. Eleven evaluators said they thought the XCP-DS FIT is much or somewhat better than other similar sensor holders.
At the end of the evaluation, the participants were asked to give their overall satisfaction rating for XCP-DS FIT. Seven evaluators rated it as excellent, 4 rated it as very good, and 5 rated it as good.
A dentist from Columbia, MO, with 10 years of experience said, ?We already ordered them for all 3 offices and we are switching to them exclusively.? Another evaluator summed up her evaluation by saying, ?We plan to use them!?
