ZNano Universal Flow

A versatile restorative material that combines the qualities of a universal composite with the convenience of a flowable, resulting in strong, esthetic restorations

IPR Rainbow Set

With a multitude of dental composites for different indications, Dr. Shikha Sood Gandhi was hoping to simplify her choices and find a “composite which had a range of applications without compromising the strength, durability or esthetics” of a restoration. Similarly, Dr. Pearl Zadeh was looking for a universal material that would be her “go-to composite.” Fortunately, both of these dentists discovered ZNano Universal Flow, a new flowable composite from Zest Dental Solutions that offers the versatility, strength, and esthetics typically found in universal composites, but in the convenience of a flowable.

Featuring 80nm spherical fillers, ZNano Universal Flow is a light-cured nanofilled flowable composite available in High Flow and Low Flow formulas with excellent mechanical properties to suit a wide range of clinical scenarios. After testing ZNano Universal Flow for DPS, Dr. Sood was happy to report, “Due to the multitude of uses, I can have a single flowable composite as a reliable option.” Dr. Zadeh called it “esthetic, easy to use, highly polishable, and predictable,” and added, “I was blown away at how strong this flowable was. It is comparable to one of my strongest posterior composites."

Ease of Dispensing & Placement

ZNano Universal Flow combines the best qualities of a universal composite—like strength and versatility —with the ease of using a flowable, according to Zest. “ZNano Universal Flow provides an easy-to-use adaptive restorative, and I like that the High Flow allows me to restore my minimally invasive preparations,” reported Dr. Gary Johnson. Dr. John Toccafondi said, “The ergonomics of the syringe and gauge of the applicator tip work well for easy placement.” Dr. Paul Trombly liked the ease of placement best, though Dr. Eric Van Zytveld said that the large bore needles made it difficult to control the flow and amount of material dispensed. When using ZNano Universal Flow for a 3mm diastema closure, Dr. Sood said the material was easy to place and work with but suggested “dispensing tips with a smaller and wider diameters.”

Flowability & Adaptability

With Low Flow and High Flow viscosities, ZNano Universal Flow is suitable for a variety of indications, including direct restorations in classes I to V, composite inlays and onlays, cavity bases or liners, reconstruction of damaged teeth in anterior and posterior, diastema closures, and repairs of veneers and provisionals. “I like that there is a nanofilled composite available in flowable form,” noted Dr. Sood. “It has a vast array of applications and is a one-stop solution for a great composite in high and low flow forms.” Dr. Johnson called the High Flow “excellent for restoring minimally invasive cavity preparations and as a liner to prevent air entrapment,” and Dr. Toccafondi said that ZNano Universal Flow “worked perfectly” to “prevent gaps in Class 2 composite restorations.”

Stating that the “material flowed well into place without distorting,” Dr. George Dimitri named the flowability and complete cure of the composite as his favorite features. Dr. Peter Dantini said he “loved the Low Flow product because it handled like thick honey, tended to stay where you placed it, and was very easy to work with.” He would like to see the High Flow offer better controllability, though he said it would be usefull “for pit and fissure sealants and areas that require a thin flowable to reach all aspects of a cavity.” Noting that ZNano Universal Flow was “very easy to use for class V restorations,” Dr. Jonathan Dubin reported, “The Low Flow stayed where I wanted it, and I could add to it in increments; the High Flow spread into areas I wanted it to.”

Esthetics

Available in 5 adaptive shades that blend with the surrounding teeth, ZNano Universal Flow produces esthetically-pleasing, wear-resistant restorations. “The shade match and ability to mimic surrounding color is better than [a competing product] when used in situations that are close to the composite’s shade,” reported Dr. Dantini, who said it “worked well with other composite systems and bonding agents” and “seems to polish well and have good strength.” Dr. Eric Leibowitz agreed that “it matches shade well and stays put,” Dr. Van Zytveld said it “provides a good esthetic result,” and Dr. Johnson said he “would like to see a wider range of chameleon effects.” Reporting that the “esthetics were very good to excellent”, Dr. Dubin said the shade A2 was very good for A1-A3, with “the only downside being locating the margins to polish.” Dr. Sood stated, “The overall esthetic result was very nice.”

Overall Satisfaction

After successfully using ZNano Universal Flow on several patients, Dr. Leibowitz concluded, “It always feels good both for me and the patient to see an anterior composite looking great.” Noting that he would recommend the flowable to other dentists, he called it “a good and basic product that should be in every dental office.” Dr. Johnson summed up his experience by saying, “ZNano Universal Flow allowed me to make quicker more efficient minimal restorations and repairs.”
