DIADENT

Dia-X Bond Universal

With exceptional handling properties, low film thickness, reliable bond strength, and virtually no postop sensitivity, this easy-to-use bonding agent is ideal for all direct and indirect restorations

A patient is scheduled for a restoration and, even before that patient arrives, Dr. Pearl Zadeh (or her assistant) lines up all the needed materials on her now cluttered procedure tray. Wouldn’t it be convenient to reduce that collection of products to save time, improve efficiency, and reduce clutter and inventory?

DiaDent’s Dia-X Bond Universal has allowed Dr. Zadeh to do just that. She discovered that this single-component bonding agent “has the versatility to use with various materials and allows me to have only 1 product in my tray setup.” True to its universal description, Dia-X Bond Universal provides secure adhesion to a variety of surfaces and substrates for all direct and indirect restorations and can be used with all etching techniques. And, it does it all in a single step with virtually no postop sensitivity.

Stating that she “liked Dia-X Bond Universal much more” than another universal adhesive, Dr. Zadeh said it “decreased chair time of the procedure” and “has less thickness when bonding, which is favorable for me.” She said her patients had “no issues with postop sensitivity,” and added, “Dia-X Bond Universal produces reproducible, predictable outcomes.”

Single-Bottle Delivery & Handling

Dia-X Bond Universal is stable and hydrophilic with a long shelf life. Its single-bottle delivery, convenient flip tip, exceptional handling, and low 2-micron film thickness make it easy and efficient to use. Calling it “easy to use with excellent working properties,” Dr. Erica Anand appreciated the “single-bottle convenience,” and a California dentist noted, “The bottle was great and dispensed well.” Dr. Padmaja Mutyala said the 1-step process “reduced chair time and cleanup,” and suggested that “dual-cure capability would be the icing on the cake.” Stating that it’s “easy to use with a good bottle design,” Dr. Peter Auster praised its “easy on, thick consistency” and said it “coats and seems to seal well.” Noting that the “film thickness was exceptional,” Dr. Chuck Rubin said his assistants liked the ease of use, and Dr. Rami Chayah praised the “simplicity of application.”

“I was very pleased with the application and appearance of the applied material,” said Dr. Jeffrey Greene, who said the yellow coloring provided a good contrast to the white dispensing dish. “While 20 seconds seems like a long time to apply a bonding agent, it seems to be the standard for those with MDP,” Dr. Greene explained. He also noticed “no spillage when the bottle was laid on its side,” but said the flip tip was difficult to remove with one hand.

Versatility

Formulated with 10-MDP monomers, Dia-X Bond Universal produces excellent bonding strength to metals such as zirconia and alumina, according to DiaDent. It is suitable for all etching techniques and for all direct and indirect restorations and is also ideal for tooth desensitization/sealing and intraoral repairs. Praising its versatility, Dr. Zadeh explained, “Having one go-to product streamlining my procedures is always ideal.” Dr. Rubin agreed and said, “It was nice to have one adhesive for any procedure, and the versatility allowed me to use it with a variety of materials.” Previously experiencing “prolonged steps that come with traditional bonding,” Dr. Chayah enjoyed “the versatility of using self-, total-, or selective-etching,” which he said gave him “freedom of usage.” Finding Dia-X Bond Universal helpful for posterior restorations in patients with limited saliva control and in those with reflux, he said it “shortens bonding procedure time.”

Bond Strength & Lack of Postop Sensitivity

“Dia-X Bond Universal worked very well with composites, and I had no issues with fillings being dislodged,” shared Dr. Anand, who also said her patients “haven’t experienced any sensitivity or pain.” Acknowledging that it’s too early to determine long term results, Dr. Greene said, “All cases so far were successful based on having no postop sensitivity or bonding failures.” Although Dr. Paul Trombly did experience a bond failure during the trial period, Dr. Steven Edelson reported “no debonding and no reported postop sensitivity.” For Dr. Rubin, “there wasn’t a single case of postop sensitivity during our trial,” and Dr. Artin Manoukian agreed that Dia-X Bond Universal “completely resolved postop sensitivity associated with resin restorations.”

Noting that he considers a procedure a success when he doesn’t hear back from the patient after placement, another dentist said he received no complaints from patients after using this “nice product” but acknowledged that “long term data is always needed to prove if you have a true winner.”

Overall Satisfaction

Calling Dia-X Bond Universal a “great product” that’s “reliable and easy to use,” Dr. Edelson, along with most of the other evaluators, said he would purchase and recommend this product in the future. Dr. Manoukian, whose patients “posted great reviews about us” after experiencing no sensitivity, praised the “great handling and fantastic results” that made Dia-X Bond Universal “much better than other leading brands.” Dr. Anand said she “would definitely use this product in the future,” and Dr. Chayah called it a “perfect” universal bonding solution.
