DENTSPLY Caulk describes Esthet•X HD as a high-definition micromatrix restorative that allows users to create strong, esthetic restorations. The newly optimized filler particle distribution provides users with fast, easyto- achieve polish; excellent physical properties for all cavity classifications; ideal handling; and comprehensive shade and opacity selection.
Fourteen dentists participated in the evaluation of Esthet•X HD, rating and commenting on such features as ease of shade selection, material consistency/ viscosity, ease of polishing, and esthetics and shade options.
Ease of Shade Selection
Esthet•X HD includes a full range of shades and opacities for every type of direct restorative need, including regular body shades, translucent enamel shades, and opaque dentin shades.
When the evaluators were asked to rate the ease of shade selection with Esthet•X HD, 5 rated it as excellent, 5 rated it as very good, and 4 rated it as good. Eight evaluators noted shade selection as one of the things they liked best about the product. One of these evaluators said, “The shades have a nice warm color.” Another evaluator commented on the “wide range of colors to choose from.”
Some evaluators were a bit intimidated by the number of shades to choose from. One of these evaluators said, “I love the product, but I just can’t see stocking so many different shades and carpules in my office.”
Material Consistency/Viscosity
The manufacturer describes Esthet•X HD as having a nonsticky consistency and excellent handling. When asked to rate the consistency and viscosity of the material, 3 evaluators rated it as excellent, 5 rated it as very good, 5 rated it as good, and 1 rated it as fair. Seven evaluators commented that they would like to see the consistency of the material improved because they found it to be a bit sticky. However, an evaluator from Dearborn, MI, said, “The material consistency was very nice. Excellent handling characteristics and easy to finish and polish.”
Ease of Polishing
According to DENTSPLY Caulk, the new optimized fi ller technology of Esthet•X HD removes the frequency of larger particles, resulting in targeted filler particle size and distribution. This, in turn, results in faster polish and outstanding physical properties.
Eight evaluators rated ease of polishing as excellent, 5 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as poor. An evaluator who practices in Ligonier, PA, and has 20 years of experience, listed ease of polishing as one of his favorite features of the product and said, “The material polishes well.”
The evaluators were also asked to rate the final polish of Esthet•X HD. Seven evaluators rated this feature as excellent, 6 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. One evaluator said, “It polishes and finishes extremely well.”
Esthetics and Shade Options
When asked to rate the esthetics of the restorations they created using Esthet•X HD, 10 evaluators rated them as excellent, 2 rated them as very good, and 2 rated them as good. When asked what he liked best about Esthet•X HD, an evaluator from Pomona, NY, said, “Color selection, ease of layering, and color accuracy.” He went on to say that Esthet•X HD is “a great choice for anterior restorations.”
Overall Satisfaction
At the end of the evaluation, the dentists who participated were asked to give their overall satisfaction rating of Esthet•X HD. Six evaluators gave an overall satisfaction rating of excellent, 6 rated it as very good, and 2 rated it as good. In addition, 10 evaluators described Esthet•X HD as much or somewhat better than other similar products.
An evaluator from Minnetonka, MN, with 25 years of experience said, “I liked the manipulability of the product… very easy to shape.” An evaluator from Los Angeles, CA, who gave Esthet•X HD an overall satisfaction rating of very good, listed several favorite features of the product, including, “Many shades, compules are color coded, nice shade guide, good instruction booklet, and well laid out kit.”
