Tango-Endo Evaluation
With Tango-Endo, it only takes 2 instruments to complete most cases.
Because patients dread root canal and other endodontic treatments, it’s important for practitioners to reduce the time the patient has to spend in an uncomfortable position. Any instrument that can increase the speed and efficiency of a procedure while producing a positive outcome will improve the patient experience and save chair time as well.
Tango-Endo instruments from Essential Dental Systems (EDS) are used in endodontic treatments to remove dentin and shape the root canal system. According to North Carolina dentist Dr. Jeffrey Tibbs, these files allow procedures to be completed with speed and efficiency, resulting in predictable and re-producible outcomes—and ultimately—good service for his patients. “I had a patient who couldn’t believe we finished endo on [tooth] No. 4 in 30 minutes, start to finish,” Dr. Tibbs shared. “His previous endodontic treatment experiences at a previous office had been an hour and a half!”
Tibbs was among a team of Dental Product Shopper evaluators, all general dentists, who recently evaluated the Tango-Endo Introductory Kit, which includes 3 shaping instruments, 3 finishing instruments, the Tango-Endo reciprocating handpiece, and 60 precision-matched gutta percha points.
Ease of Use
Specifically designed for the Tango-Endo reciprocating handpiece, Tango-Endo instruments reduce binding and instrument separation, according to EDS. Many evaluators appreciated that the system was easy to use, with comments about its efficiency and convenience. “It was easy to set up right out of the box with very little training,” reported Dr. Abraham Jaskiel, a Miami dentist. “It doesn’t take up a lot of room.”
With the unique flute design, dentists can safely work lateral canal walls and negotiate curves while preserving canal anatomy, according to the manufacturer. Evaluators seemed to agree. “I had a pretty calcified tooth on an older patient,” Dr. Jaskiel said. “I thought I would need a lot of time to clean, shape, and complete. This product helped me easily complete this calcified molar.” Dr. Janet Williams, who rated ease of use as excellent, called Tango-Endo a “truly seamless operation!”

Cutting Efficiency, Resistance to Breakage
The Tango-Endo instruments have a patented flat along the entire length, creating 2 vertical blades that increase cutting ability.
When asked what he liked best about the fi les, Colorado dentist Dr. Jeffrey Tippets pointed to the cutting efficiency of the fi les. While Dr. Kenneth Lutsch said he would like to see more aggressive cutting, Dr. Bilyana Tesic said the Tango-Endo instruments cut faster with-out much canal transportation.
EDS states that their patented flat increases instrument flexibility without compromising strength, and reduces compressive and tensile stresses to improve durability. “[I] felt secure about the file not separating,” Dr. Lutsch reported after using the instruments for about 4 weeks. When the evaluators were asked to provide 3 reasons why this product could be an invaluable addition to their practices, Dr. Williams listed time savings, convenience, and reliability from resistance to breakage.
Convenience, Time Savings
With Tango-Endo, it only takes 2 instruments to complete most endo cases, ac-cording to EDS. The simple 2-step process saves time while quickly navigating to the apex. Several evaluators mentioned that the 2-instrument shaping system was their favorite feature. “I love that it’s only 2 files,” Dr. Jaskiel noted. Dr. Tesic agreed and said she liked the convenience of having to use only 2 files. Dr. Tippets recommended that EDS add at least 1 more fi le for larger canal cleaning. Dr. Tibbs suggested a third size be made available to clean extra-small canals.
The dentists and their patients greatly appreciated the time savings that the Tango-Endo system provided. “[The] length of treatment was drastically reduced, and the patient was amazed at how quickly the procedure was completed,” Dr. Williams said. “It truly has simplified endodontics!”
Dr. Krissy Christopoulos, from Glendale, WI, reported, “It was quicker than the patient thought it would take. No one wants to be sitting with their mouth open for hours.” Dr. Tesic concluded, “Any instrument that helps get the patients out of the chair faster is improving the experience, especially when it comes to root canals.”

Overall Satisfaction
Dr. Joseph Camuccio, a Florida dentist who has been practicing for 45 years, rated all features of the Tango-Endo system as excellent and said he would definitely recommend and purchase it. Dr. Christopoulos also commended Tango-Endo, describing it as a good system that could be used with pre-molars and molars. Dr. Tibbs, who said his overall satisfaction was excellent, concluded, “For the GP who enjoys and is proficient doing some of their own endo, with Tango-Endo they will feel confident treating more cases.” And Dr. Williams summed up her thoughts with the simple statement, “I’m quite pleased with this new product!”
