Cavitron Inserts

The Cavitron® family of inserts offers a broad selection of ultrasonic scaling inserts to fit the needs of every practice—and patient. Just like with hand scaling, ultrasonic inserts are designed for removing different levels of deposit. Selecting and using the proper inserts can help improve patient comfort and efficiency of practices. The Cavitron® Thinsert® Ultrasonic Insert provides access in difficult areas, including misalignments, interproximal surfaces and tight tissues, without loss of tactile sensations. Our line of Cavitron® Slimline® Ultrasonic Inserts offer a thin tip design for improved subgingival access. Cavitron® Powerline® Ultrasonic Inserts are thicker inserts with larger tips, specifically designed for efficient removal of heavier deposits.

The last 4mm of a Cavitron Ultrasonic insert is referred to as the tip’s active area. Worn tips can cause the use of excessive pressure while scaling, which results in discomfort for both the clinician and patient. Insert wear should be monitored regularly to ensure optimal performance.

A natural, comfortable grip is the hallmark of FITGRIP Ultrasonic Inserts, with their large-diameter, textured ergonomic handles.

Amazing” was how one hygienist described the Cavitron FITGRIP inserts after evaluating them for Dental Product Shopper. She specifically noted the cushioning effect created by the large, soft grip. “It seems to give me better control and ease of access when working on periodontally involved patients,” she said, “not to mention less stress on my fingers!”
Offered with 9 of Cavitron’s most popular 30K ultrasonic inserts, FITGRIP offers an anatomical grip for exceptional user comfort. FITGRIP inserts were recently evaluated by 15 dental hygienists, some who were current Cavitron users and some who used power scaling systems from other manufacturers. The evaluators used inserts in 3 of Cavitron’s lines— THINsert, Focused Spray slimLINE (for light/moderate deposits) and PowerLINE (for moderate/heavy deposits)—and rated FITGRIP on several criteria.

Ergonomics

Manufacturer Description: Configured for improved user comfort and performance, Cavitron inserts with FITGRIP incorporate an ergonomically designed grip that allows the fingers to conform naturally. The large grip diameter decreases muscle load and pinch force, and a rippled texture and specialized shape lessen the chance of slipping during a procedure

Evaluator Feedback: “[I] loved the finger grip, very comfortable to use,” said an evaluator who has practiced dental hygiene for over 40 years. The “comfortable feel” was what she liked best about FITGRIP, and she mentioned that only “slight pressure” was required to remove heavy calculus. A Minnesota hygienist shared, “I felt like I didn’t have to hang on to the tip as tight and it just stuck to my glove. The thicker grip also made my hand less tired.”
Nine of the evaluators said that the comfortable grip was their favorite feature of the FITGRIP inserts. Overall, nearly three-quarters of the evaluators rated FITGRIP’s ergonomics as excellent, with the remaining rating it very good or good.

Debridement Ability

Manufacturer Description: The Cavitron FITGRIP line includes a range of designs with choices of sizes, crosssections, and curvatures. All are engineered for maximum debridement efficiency with optimal adaptation and longlasting sharpness. DENTSPLY Professional provides detailed charts to help users choose the correct style for any particular application.

Evaluator Feedback: Excellent (the highest level of satisfaction) is how 13 of the 15 evaluators rated FITGRIP’s debridement ability. Additionally, 2 of those 13—both of whom were current users of other manufacturers’ inserts—named this as their favorite feature of the inserts. With all of the evaluators agreeing that the ability to effectively and efficiently debride tooth and root surfaces is a very important consideration when choosing an insert, these numbers are especially telling.

Handling

Manufacturer Description: The 3 insert styles available with FITGRIP are engineered for ease of use and optimal access to hard-to-reach areas. The 4 Focused Spray slimLINE inserts with FITGRIP have thin tips that adapt to root anatomy and are designed for use in furcations and concavities. Featuring an even thinner tip, the THINsert insert with FITGRIP facilitates access into areas such as misalignments, interproximal surfaces, and areas of tight tissues. The 4 Focused Spray PowerLINE inserts with FITGRIP feature flat beaver tail tips for use on calculus bridges and removal of heavy extrinsic staining.

Evaluator Feedback: All of the evaluators acknowledged that ease of use and access to the oral cavity are critical features of an ultrasonic insert. When asked what she liked best about the product, an evaluator with more than 3 decades of clinical experience said, “Nice maneuverability, no dripping,” and also added, “[I] wish it had a light.” An even more seasoned hygienist from Massachusetts noted, “I like how easy it is to use.” And yet another shared, “I like the contour of the tips, which allows better access into furcation areas.”

Overall Satisfaction

A Maryland hygienist who rated her overall satisfaction as excellent said, “When replacing my current Cavitron inserts, I will be switching to FITGRIP due to the comfort and ease of use.” And the rest of the evaluators agreed; all 15 would definitely or probably purchase FITGRIP tips in the future. Similarly, all the evaluators said FITGRIP inserts were better than similar inserts from other manufacturers and that they would recommend FITGRIP to colleagues. This definitive thumbs-up from the evaluators has earned FITGRIP a 2015 Best Product distinction in the Dental Product Shopper peer-to-peer evaluation program.
