Dental school lays the foundation for clinical excellence, but to thrive today, dentists must also master clear communication, create positive patient experiences, inspire and guide their teams, and navigate the complexities of practice management.
“As a new graduate, I wanted to build on the clinical skills I learned in school by gaining real-world knowledge in running a practice, leading a team, and communicating effectively with patients. I also aimed to deepen my clinical expertise in implant dentistry,” said Dr. Mansour Mohammed, a managing clinical director (MCD) at Aspen Dental.
“The Aspen Group University (TAG U) provided hands-on training, mentorship, and real-world education that went beyond what I learned in dental school,” he explained. “I developed stronger leadership and communication skills, gained a better understanding of practice operations, and expanded my clinical knowledge, especially in implant dentistry. This helped me feel more prepared and confident as I transition into practicing independently.”
Quality of Course Content
Fueled by innovation and technology, TAG U supports Aspen Dental providers in a wide array of professional and personal growth opportunities through world-class learning experiences at every phase of their lives and careers. Its faculty guides students through 4 Schools of Excellence: Clinical, Leadership, Business & Operations, and Service & Support.
“Over the past several months, I have participated in a combination of online and hands-on training programs designed to enhance both my clinical skills and leadership abilities,” said Dr. Noor Al-Noori. “This blended approach to learning has proven highly effective—not only for my personal development but also for the benefit of my entire clinical staff.”
Dr. Marco Gargano said, “TAG U does a great job of using different teaching styles—lectures, small groups, simulations, and hands-on.” Dr. David Moore shared similar thoughts. Previously looking for “a better opportunity to learn multiple disciplines in one place,” he found that the resources available through TAG U are “easily navigated with great content.”
“The course content is great, which is the most important thing,” said Fabrizio Cena, DDS, MCD. “It is very detailed and evidence-based, and having completed numerous CE courses before TAG U, I could immediately recognize the quality of the course content,” he added, although he would like to see additional TAG U courses on clinical topics.
Mentorship and Support
The expert faculty at TAG U is composed of industry experts who are trained to motivate and challenge learners, providing valuable guidance and mentorship.
“With no family members who are dentists, finding good mentors and developing key leadership skills were things I knew I would have to improve to lead a successful team,” said Dr. Jack Goertzen, a new dentist starting out as the only doctor in his office. Thanks to TAG U, he said, “I can access a wide array of dentists for advice.”
Dr. Gargano said, “TAG U’s mentorship and coaching empowered me to communicate confidently with my patients and transition smoothly from dental school into practice,” and Dr. Mohammed said, “What stands out most about TAG U is how supportive and friendly the learning and development team has been. From the instructors to the course materials, everything is designed to help you succeed. I always felt there was guidance available when needed.”
Curriculum Relevance & Practicality
TAG U’s targeted learning translates to improved daily practice and personal growth for clinicians.
Dr. Moore said, “It gave me useful information to be able to feel more confident in my practice,” and Dr. Goertzen said, “I’ve found the ability to convey important information to help patients see the bigger picture of their oral health.”
“The skills taught in TAG U extend well beyond the scope of Aspen Dental,” said Dr. Lazaro Tobias. “It’s about more than just clinical dentistry—it’s about developing emotional intelligence and leadership skills that are essential for building strong relationships and running an effective practice.”
“TAG U has had a meaningful impact on my daily practice,” Dr. Mohammed affirmed. “The training helped me improve patient communication, which has led to stronger trust and better overall patient experiences.”
Overall Satisfaction
“TAG U helped me learn how to motivate and lead others, hold myself and others accountable, and have a healthy work environment,” Dr. Al-Noori said. “Whether you’re looking to grow your leadership, refine clinical techniques, or expand into new treatment areas like implants, this program delivers the tools and confidence to do so.”
