SplashMax

According to DenMat, independent testing has demonstrated that SplashMax achieves the lowest contact angle in the shortest amount of time among competing VPS materials. This exceptionally low contact angle plus a 99.9% recovery after stretching and compression results in highly detailed and accurate impressions with fewer retakes. SplashMax exhibits excellent tear strength (0.635 N/mm for the heavy material) to facilitate removal from the mouth. In addition, the different colors of the Extra Lite, Lite, Medium, and Heavy SplashMax formulations contrast each other for quick and easy visual distinction. What’s more, the material features a patient-pleasing wild-berry scent for comfort during the procedure. SplashMax comes in 2 set times (2:15 and 4:30) and 2 delivery options (a 50-mL cartridge and a 360-mL jumbo cartridge).

SplashMax produces impressions with superior accuracy and excellent tear strength and elasticity.

When asked what she liked most about SplashMax, a Wisconsin dentist who called it a ?great material for critical cases? discussed its use in a senior wheelchair-bound patient whom she described as a gagger with a tremor of her mouth. ?The product performed awesome and, in only 2:15, we got a perfect final impression for her dentures,? she said.

This premium VPS impression material from DenMat provides thixotropic consistency and ideal flow properties, maximum tear strength and elasticity, excellent dimensional accuracy, and a scent that maximizes patient comfort.

The 14 dentists who evaluated SplashMax rated features such as viscosity/consistency, ease of use, and accuracy.

Score

Handling (Viscosity/Consistency)

Manufacturer Description: SplashMax is available in 4 high-contrast viscosities (Extra Lite, Lite, Medium and Heavy). Formulated with thixotropic consistency and ideal flow properties, the material is self-contouring and flows into the finest details.

Evaluator Feedback: ?The product has very nice flow properties, which make it easy to use,? said one of the 12 evaluators who rated viscosity/consistency as excellent or very good. A dentist who said he would definitely purchase SplashMax and recommend it to colleagues noted, ?Extra Lite viscosity is more stable and exhibits less slumping than [our other VPS material], but it gets deeper into the sulcus. Awesome!? When asked what they?d like to see improved, a dentist who called SplashMax much better than similar materials said, ?the light body seemed a bit runny,? and an evaluator who rated all features as excellent said, ?I?d like the heavy body to be slightly firmer.?

Ease of Use

Manufacturer Description: SplashMax is available in a convenient 1:1 automix cartridge delivery system, and features 2 set times (2:15 and 4:30). Colored mixing and intraoral tips enable precise placement of wash material.

Evaluator Feedback: All 14 evaluators rated ease of use as excellent or very good, calling the material ?easy to use and load onto the impression tray,? and noting that the ?colors were good for detecting any issues with the impression,? and that, ?I could see my margins well.? One evaluator commented that the color ?seems little affected by any sulcus liquid.?

Both working and setting time were rated as excellent or very good by 13 dentists. ?SplashMax medium body fast set is awesome,? said a dentist who tested the medium half-time and lite half-time formulations. The same evaluator, who rated all features as excellent, went on to describe the material as, ?fast, easy, and cost efficient because you only have to use one material for tray and wash while taking final impressions for the edentulous arch.? Additional comments included ?sets quickly and removes easily,? and, ?fast setting time is another bonus.? One evaluator suggested, ?various setting times for single crowns versus long-span bridges.?

Accuracy

Manufacturer Description: The material?s nearly instant hydrophilicity results in consistently highly detailed impressions in a moist environment. Ninety-nine percent recovery after stretching and compression forces prevents permanent deformation/distortion of the impression after removal from the mouth, providing excellent dimensional accuracy.

Evaluator Feedback: With comments such as, ?seems to always capture the margins,? and ?soft-tissue detail is very accurate,? both accuracy and distortion/stability were rated as excellent or very good by all 14 evaluators. When asked about hydrophilicity, 13 evaluators rated this feature as excellent or very good, with remarks such as, ?no voids along margins,? and ?hydrophilicity is excellent, accuracy is superb.?

?The hydrophilic properties were helpful in hard-to-dry preparations, allowing for bubble-free impressions,? noted a South Carolina dentist.

Overall Satisfaction

Several evaluators commented on SplashMax?s wild berry scent, which alleviates patient discomfort by reducing the gag reflex. Comments included, ?patients love the berry taste and color,? and, ?great product?scent is a bonus.? Ninety-three percent of the evaluators rated their overall satisfaction with the material as excellent or very good, and said they would definitely or probably purchase the material and recommend it to their colleagues. ?We were able to produce excellent impressions. If the price point is set correctly, we will definitely use this material? noted a Colorado dentist who rated all features as excellent. ?I?ve already purchased more at the ADA meeting! Great product,? said a dentist in practice for 26 years.
