Multi-Axis Spiral Suction (M.A.S.S.)

The award winning Multi-Axis Spiral Suction (M.A.S.S.) tip features a spiral vented design, angled barrel wall, and a rolled edge. M.A.S.S. is the FIRST and ONLY HVE tip that; prevents soft tissue from being drawn-in, allows for continuous suction even if the end of the tip is occluded, and serves the function of both an HVE tip and a saliva ejector. In addition to those features it offers; a more ergonomic hand positioning for assistants, a better field of view for both dentist and assistant, is quieter than traditional HVE tips, and has a rounded edge to prevent possible tissue trauma.

The Multi-Axis Spiral Suction tip prevents tissue draw-in, provides continuous suction even if the end is occluded, & eliminates the need for a saliva ejector.
This is an excellent suction tip for hygiene appointments, as it replaces a standard HVE and a saliva ejector,” reported a California dentist who evaluated the Multi-Access Spiral Suction (M.A.S.S.) tips for Dental Product Shopper. Another evaluator shared, “The ergonomic design of the HVE tip (the angle of it)was very comfortable for my assistant to use and put less stress on her hands when retracting the cheek.”Ghost Manufacturing’s Multi-Axis Spiral Suction tip functions as an HVE tip and a saliva ejector, will provide continuous suction without trauma to the tissue and is ergonomically designed for operator and patient comfort. For this evaluation, 14 dentists and assistants used the M.A.S.S. tips for a few weeks and shared their feedback with DPS.

Prevents Drawing in of Soft Tissue

Manufacturer Description: The spiral, vented design of the M.A.S.S. tip allows for retraction and suction without sucking up the tongue, cheek, or other soft tissue.
Evaluator Feedback: “The ability to resist drawing tissue is excellent,” reported a Bronx, NY, dentist, and a Florida assistant agreed, saying, “I like that it doesn’t suck on the soft tissue as much as the old school HVE and it doesn’t suck on the buccal mucosa as much as the regular HVE.” Another dentist thought there “seemed to be too many vents/holes in the tip which led to softtissue clogging,” but still rated this attribute as good. An evaluator in practice for 30 years announced his favorite feature, “No more suctioning of the lips, tongue, or cheeks.”

Provides Continuous Suction and Noise Level

Manufacturer Description: The patented spiral venting of this HVE tip allows for continuous suction even when holes are covered by tissue. Should the end of the evacuator be obstructed, the spiral vents will still allow continuous suction, preventing possible backflow. The number of holes reduces the suction to a level that will not draw in tissue, yet the volume of suction remains strong. The holes on the walls of the tip also help decrease noise. Evaluator Feedback: When asked what they liked best about the M.A.S.S. tips, an Alabama dentist replied, “The continuous suction,” another evaluator liked the “moderate suction and noise levels” and a third said “The noise level is low.” Other comments included, “The multiple holes along the suction tip dampened the noise but it affected the power of the suction,” as well as “The vents are important,” and “I felt it needed more suction power for the extraction of root tips.” A dentist, who rated the ability to continuously suction as excellent, suggested, “Maybe less perforations on tips to allow for a little more suction power.”

Operator Ergonomics and Patient Comfort

Manufacturer Description: Designed with ergonomic hand positioning, the M.A.S.S. tip has an angled barrel wall to retract tissue while providing a clear field of view for both the dentist and assistant. The rolled edge of the tip increases a patient’s comfort.
Evaluator Feedback: Several evaluators commented that the angle and ergonomic design were their favorite features of the M.A.S.S. tip, including a New York dentist who liked the “angle ergonomics” best. An assistant from Tampa, FL, said, “I love the angulation. It’s easy on the wrist,” and reported that the angle “makes it very easy to suction.”
Concerning patient comfort, an evaluator related, “It’s very soft on the edges which makes it easy for the patient,” and a dentist described, “The type of material felt softer and much lighter which leads to more comfort on the patient’s end and the assistant’s.”

Overall Satisfaction

The tips are “very efficient” and “improve workflow” shared an Ohio dentist who rated his overall satisfaction as excellent.
Eleven of the evaluators said they would definitely or probably recommend the M.A.S.S. tips to other dental professionals. One evaluator, who would definitely recommend the product, suggested “a filter cap for the end so large pieces of amalgam or porcelain don’t get sucked up.” “I do look forward to keeping a stock of them handy,” recounted another dentist who said she would definitely purchase the product.
