CaviWipes Surface Disinfecting Wipes
TotalCare
CaviWipes offer the convenience of surface disinfection, decontamination, and cleaning in a single disposable product.
CaviWipes from TotalCare are disposable towlettes presaturated with CaviCide, an intermediate-level disinfectant effective against viruses, bacteria, and fungi.1 The nonwoven towlettes are recommended for cleaning and disinfection of hard, nonporous exterior surfaces, where cross-contamination is an issue. The manufacturer reports kill times of 3 minutes for organisms such as TB and Saphylococcus aureus and 2 minutes for organisms including MRSA, VRE, HIV, HBV, and HCV.
CaviWipes are available in regular (6” x 6.75”), FlatPack (7” x 9”), and XL (9” x 12”), and come in space-saving resealable soft packs and cannisters.
Effectiveness
The 7-layer CaviWipes are fully saturated to drench surfaces with CaviCide, offering superior surface contact and fluid capacity. The towlettes are sturdy, durable, nonabrasive, and nonbunching. The 14 hygienists who evaluated the wipes rated them with respect to all wipes in the container maintaining moisture—11 rated this feature as excellent and 2 as very good. They also rated how well 1 wipe covers a large area (10 as excellent, 1 as very good, 2 as good, and 1 as fair) and their sturdiness/durability throughout use (12 as excellent and 2 as very good to good).
One evaluator said she’d like “a slightly larger size to cover more area so they wouldn’t dry out. I used 3 to 4 at a time.” An evaluator who “really liked the size and durability” also said she’d “like them to be a little wetter for longer disinfecting time… I added extra CaviCide.” Another evaluator “really liked that they’re very durable and nice and damp…2 can cover a whole room” and a hygienist who prefers them to her current wipes noted that “the added moisture and size make them more cost-effective, even though they’re slightly more expensive.” A West Seneca, NY hygienist said, “I used fewer and they seemed to retain moisture longer.” One evaluator said they “hold a lot of moisture, were very smooth and easy to use,” and another, “liked the cloth being thicker and more like fabric.” One hygienist said they “helped remove stubborn soil and were very moist. The scent was good too.”
Ease of Use (Access and Storage)
When asked if CaviWipes were easily removed from the container, 7 evaluators rated them as excellent, 4 rated them as very good to good, 2 rated them as fair, and 1 rated them as poor. One evaluator called this “difficult,” and another “occasionally had a little trouble getting the next sheet out.” One evaluator said it “wasn’t easy pulling the plastic opening back with gloves on.”
When asked about convenience of storing the container in treatment areas, 8 evaluators rated it as excellent, 5 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. One evaluator found the soft packaging “a little flimsy,” and a third called the packaging “much more environmentally friendly than large tubs.”
Product Innovation
Designed for optimal convenience, CaviWipes serve as a cleaner, decontaminant, and disinfectant in one. Product innovation was rated as excellent by 8 evaluators, as very good by 3, as good by 2, and as fair by 1. The evaluator whose suggestion for improvement was “less toxic ingredients” said her favorite features were “no strong chemical odor and ease of use.” Another hygienist “very much liked the texture and really liked that they didn’t leave streaks.”
Overall Satisfaction
Overall satisfaction with CaviWipes was rated as excellent by 11 evaluators, as very good by 2, and as good by 1; 12 said they would definitely recommend them to colleagues and 11 would definitely buy them. “The moisture is adequate, the smell isn’t offensive, the size is perfect, and the texture is awesome!” said a Coarsegold, CA hygienist. “I really liked them and our office is planning to switch,” said an evaluator in practice in Albuquerque, NM. “Thanks for the opportunity to evaluate this quality product.”
