Endeavour Headlight

The Endeavour is a portable headlight system that produces a precise focused beam of light that evenly illuminates one’s field of view.>

Using advanced capacitive touch controls, the user is able to toggle between three light intensity levels up to 68 lumens without reaching into their coat or pants pocket.

Constant-current technology also ensures your light output will not diminish over the run-time of the battery.

Orascoptic

Orascoptic's Zeon Endeavour provides high-quality, high-resolution illumination in a light-weight, user-friendly "package."

Described by Orascoptic as their lightest and smallest light system ever, the Zeon Endeavour features a compact, light-weight headlight and battery for maximum comfort. The miniature "gumdrop" design of the headlight produces high-quality, high resolution illumination with a bright and highly focused spot.

The Endeavour features capacitive touch controls, making it easy to change lighting levels and providing the user with excellent control. Heat output is extremely low-well below the regulated temperature threshold for a medical device-and the system comes with a curing filter and a batterypower level display.

Comfort

The Zeon Endeavour is built for comfort, with a 0.26-oz light and a 4.6-oz lithium ion battery. When the 11 dentists who evaluated the Endeavour were asked about headlight size and weight as pertaining to comfort, 8 rated it excellent and 3 rated it as very good, with 7 citing this as a favorite feature. One dentist called it 'small, light-weight, and unobtrusive" and another "hardly knew I was wearing it. I want to use it as my everyday, every-patient light!"

Ease of Use

Endeavour's Advanced Light-Touch technology enhances ease of use by putting light adjustment settings at the user's fingertips.

Capacitive touch was rated as excellent by 2 dentists, as very good by 3, as good by 4, and as fair to poor by 2. "While the capacitive control worked superbly, I don't like having to hold it for 2 seconds to turn it on or off," said a dentist who rated thesystem as excellent. "It remembers the last brightness level when turning on or off, but several times the light was dim and I had to cycle through all the levels to figure out and return to the high setting," he added. Another dentist "didn't like the capacitive touch controls since it took too long to turn on and off." Remarks on switch design ranged from, "The on/off button wasn't always as reactive to my touch as I"d like," to, "The touch on/off is slick." One evaluator said the battery "takes way too long to recharge-it should come with 2 batteries and a better warning system."

Evaluators commented on the ease of attaching Endeavour; 1 said it "didn't attach well," and another said it "easily secured to my loupes." Similarly, 1 dentist "loved the flip-down amber shield-perfect when working with composite" and another "didn't like the shield to turn off my light during composite placement."

Brightness and Intensity

The Endeavour is the brightest light in its category (2000/3000/4000 ft cd of output) and delivers high-resolution illumination with a bright and focused spot (2.25-in spotlight at 12 in).

Brightness/light intensity was rated as excellent by 9 evaluators and as very good by 2. Ten dentists rated the quality of the spotlight as excellent and 1 rated it as very good. Comments included "I can see more and treat my patients better," "many patients were impressed with its ability to focus on the mouth and away from the eyes," and "compares very favorably with the ultra-light optics I consider the best." One dentist said it "helps reduce eye fatigue and improves vision in the posterior-I enjoyed using it" and another said the bright, well-focused light allows him to "clearly see details that were hard or impossible to visualize before."

Overall Satisfaction

Seven evaluators called the Endeavour much or somewhat better than similar systems and 9 said they would definitely or probably recommend and purchase it. Overall satisfaction was rated as excellent by 7 evaluators and as very good to good by 4.

"I have one of the older, heavier Orascoptic lights. I"ve always been happy with it but this light is awesome," said a New York dentist in practice for 28 years. A Georgia dentist who used a headlight years ago but found it "bulky and difficult," said, "Thank you for getting me back into the use of lights with my loupes. This system is great in every way." "I"ve used it on every patient I"ve seen since I got it and will use it on every future patient," said an Ohio dentist with 31 years of experience. "I wouldn't want to go back to working with my old light."
