All-Bond Universal

Combining etching, priming, and bonding, BISCO created All-Bond Universal, an ethanol/water-based dental adhesive that bonds to dentin, as well as cut and uncut enamel. All-Bond Universal can be used with both direct and indirect dental restorations and will bond to all indirect substrates. In addition, it is a single bottle system that it is compatible with all composite and resin-based cements without the need for an additional activator.

With virtually no postoperative sensitivity, All-Bond Universal offers consistent and effective performance for nearly all direct and indirect restorations.

All-Bond Universal Evaluation

With its versatility, reliable bonding, reduced post-op sensitivity, and ease of use, ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL has proved itself over time.

All bonding agents are not created equal—each has a unique chemistry and incorporates a variety of application techniques. And the importance of a bonding agent in restorative dentistry cannot be overstated. Dental bonding is a critical step for the success of both direct and indirect restorations, not only because it provides adhesion, but also because it seals and maintains structural integrity.

While many dental materials have “universal” listed as a feature, BISCO has long described ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL as “the first truly universal dental adhesive.” Dr. Abraham Jaskiel affirmed, “One material does it all. It’s an etchant, primer, and adhesive all in 1.” He especially likes the convenience and time savings of the single-bottle system. “I use it every single day—all day,” he said.

Because of its versatility, ease of use, reliability, and virtually no post-op sensitivity, DPS evaluators awarded ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL a “Best Product” rating in a 2012 product evaluation. And these are the reasons why many of those original evaluators are still using the product today. We checked in with some of the dentists recently to find out how ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL has proved itself in the long term.

Versatility

Available in a 6 mL bottle or 0.2 mL unit doses, ALLBOND UNIVERSAL can be used with direct and indirect restorations and is compatible with light-, dual-, and self-cured materials. It bonds to all indirect substrates; is suitable for composite and resin-based cements; and can be used on wet, dry, or moist tooth structure.

“It is a good bonding agent and I love the versatility,” shared Mitchell Pasenkoff, DMD, one of the original evaluators who still relies on ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL daily in his practice. He described it as a multipurpose bonding agent that “does it all,” and he appreciates its compatibility, explaining “One bottle has it all—etchant, primer, and bonding agent—and it can be used for different phases of curing from light- to self- to dual-cure.”

Several dentists noted its versatility as their favorite feature and agreed that ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL is an indispensable bonding material for a dental practice. “I like the 1-bottle approach,” noted Dr. David Feick, who said it makes inventory easy and predictable. “Using ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL, with its versatility, will definitely allow me to cut down on supplies and the amount of bottles around.”

Reduced Post-Op Sensitivity

Years ago, when Dr. Jaskiel first tried ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL, he had been using a similar singlebottle adhesive from a different manufacturer. One of the first things he noticed about BISCO’s product was how easily it filled and successfully sealed the tubules, which was a great improvement from his previous product. He experienced a noticeable decrease in patients with postoperative sensitivity after switching to ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL. “The no-etch adhesives I used before regularly caused post-op sensitivity,” Dr. Jaskiel noted. “As soon as I started using ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL, the incidence of sensitivity decreased dramatically.” Dr. Pasenkoff agreed that post-op sensitivity decreased a great amount once he began using the product.

Unit Dose and Bond Strength

The unit doses of 0.20 ml were made available after the time of the original evaluation. “I have tried the unit dose and I love it,” Dr. Pasenkoff said. Dr. Jason Wasserman, who prefers the unit dose over the bottle, likes the way ALLBOND UNIVERSAL handles and says the packaging is better than other single-use universal bonding agents. With the unit dose, he feels confident that the chemistry remains unchanged, he added.

Dr. Pasenkoff said ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL’s bond strength has proven itself over time. Dr. Jaskiel noted, “The bond strength seems to be good,” but pointed out that he hasn’t done any formal studies. “I haven’t had any fractures and I have confidence that this adhesive really works,” Dr. Jaskiel stated. He said that failed bonds in his practice are very rare, but if it happens it’s usually because of other issues unrelated to the adhesive used in the procedure. After 6 years of bonding with ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL, Dr. Wasserman noted that the bonds are holding up well and he’s had very few issues with sensitivity.

Overall Satisfaction

Having trusted ALL-BOND UNIVERSAL in his practice for years, Dr. Jaskiel said it is his “go-to product when it comes to bonding.” Dr. John Horn called it “a breeze to light cure” and said the material is “as simple as it gets,” adding, “I really enjoy using the BISCO line of products—a quality company.”
