Colgate Visible White provides fast, safe, and effective take-home whitening.
Colgate Oral Pharmaceuticals recently introduced Colgate Visible White Take-Home Whitening Kit. According to the manufacturer, with once a day, 30-minute whitening treatments, Colgate Visible White can help patients achieve visibly whiter teeth in just 3 days.
Ten dentists participated in this Dental Product Shopper evaluation of Colgate Visible White. They evaluated such things as ease of use, satisfaction with whitening results, and overall packaging quality.
Instructions and Ease of Use
The instructions for use for patients are described by the manufacturer as simple. After brushing their teeth, patients place a small amount of gel in the tray for each tooth that needs to be whitened, insert the tray in the mouth and over the teeth, and wear the tray for 30 minutes. The clarity of the instructions for use were rated as excellent by 6 evaluators and as very good to good by 4. One evaluator said he “would like to see more information on how much [gel] should be placed in the trays.” An evaluator with 34 years of experience described the instructions as “short, concise, and clear.”
When asked about ease of use, 6 of the 10 evaluators rated Colgate Visible White as excellent, 3 rated it as very good, and 1 rated it as good. A dentist from Palmyra, NY with 4 years of experience described the system as “overall easy to use.” Another dentist, from Witchita, KS said, “The small syringes are very easy for patients to manipulate,” and a third evaluator described the gel as having “good consistency.”
Satisfaction with Whitening Results
Colgate Visible White is formulated with potassium nitrate and fluoride and is available in 5%, 7%, and 9% hydrogen peroxide. These percentages are comparable to 17%, 23%, and 30% carbamide peroxide respectively.
Eight evaluators rated their satisfaction with the whitening results as excellent to very good and 2 rated it as good. An evaluator who has been in practice for 4 years described the results as “average with slight whitening of the teeth.” Another evaluator said, “The results have been at least as good as any other take home product we have used, and better than some.” An evaluator from Grand Forks, ND said he was “surprised and extremely pleased with the results with a 7% gel for only 30 minutes per day.”
Overall Packaging
Described by the manufacturer as “sleek, portable, and reusable,” each Colgate Visible White kit contains 4 (3.11 g) syringes, a mouth tray storage case, and patient instructions.
When asked about the overall packaging of Colgate Visible White, 7 evaluators rated it as excellent and 3 rated it as very good. An evaluator from Denver, CO with 3 years of experience said, “The package comes complete with the entire needs for a single patient.” The evaluator from Whichita, KS said, “The take-home package is very professional. Our only suggestion is that it would be nice if the containers could be imprinted with the name of the practice.” A third evaluator, from Claremore, OK who has been in practice for 14 years, described the packaging as “great. We received many [positive] comments from patients on the packaging.”
Lack of Sensitivity
Eight evaluators rated lack of sensitivity as excellent or very good and 2 rated it as fair. One evaluator said that “1 of 5 [patients] reported gingival sensitivity,” and another evaluator reported “2 cases of sensitivity out of 5 patients given the system.” A third evaluator described it as “very similar to other take-home products.”
Overall Satisfaction
Eight evaluators said they would definitely or probably purchase Colgate Visible White in the future and that they would recommend it to colleagues.
Six of the evaluators rated their overall satisfaction with Colgate Visible White as excellent to very good, 3 rated it as good, and 1 rated it as fair. An evaluator who graduated from the University of Iowa College of Dentistry in 1983 said, “This is a product that works, has a great taste, and very nice take-home packaging.” This same evaluator said, “This is the only product patients have had favorable things to say about the taste. This alone makes it our favorite product!”
