PrepCheck is designed to promote adequate and accurate reduction, allowing the clinician to deliver a strong and esthetic final restoration.
An evaluator from New York City said, "Using this system I can accurately reduce the amount of tooth structure needed, and only in the exact areas that need it!" When asked what he liked best about Common Sense Dental Products PrepCheck, another dentist said he liked the dual-sided approach of marking or not to mark prep.
Proper tooth reduction is critical to the overall long-term success of a final restoration. According to Common Sense Dental Products, the PrepCheck system can promote adequate reduction, allowing ideal thickness of the final restoration. PrepCheck tabs are available in 3 sizes: 1 mm for gold crowns, 1.5 mm for porcelain-to-metal, and 2 mm for nonmetal.
Thirteen dentists participated in the PrepCheck product evaluation for Dental Product Shopper, rating features such as ease of use, accuracy of reduction, accuracy of esthetics, and time savings.
Ease of Use
Evaluator Feedback: Six evaluators mentioned that ease of use was what they liked best about the product. A dentist who performs extensive rehabilitation and cosmetic dentistry said the PrepCheck tabs were very easy to use, and he continued, The boomerang design is wonderful, easy to handle and easy to understand.
One dentist suggested, "It is very difficult to know which side of the marker to hold. It would be better if the side you hold is a consistent color." Other comments regarding ease of use included, "I like the easy to read markings." Another evaluator said, "The learning curve was short."
Accuracy of Reduction and Esthetics

Evaluator Feedback: Regarding accuracy of reduction, a Wisconsin evaluator said that using PrepCheck "promotes proper reduction when I can?t see," and a second dentist commented, "No more guessing or eye-balling to determine if you reduced enough."
An evaluator from North Massapequa, NY, suggested that PrepCheck could be "slightly more flexible." A dentist who uses a 3D intraoral digital scanner said PrepCheck was "accurate" and said he "compared [his] results with those of the [3D intraoral digital scanner], and they were very close."
Regarding the accuracy of esthetics, a dentist with 23 years of experience mentioned there were "extremely accurate markings left on the prep. A properly reduced prep will allow a lab to produce the strongest, most esthetic crown possible."
Time Savings and Patient Comfort

Evaluator Feedback: "PrepCheck is a great little time saving product that allows for the perfect prep," commented one evaluator.
Ten of the 13 evaluators felt that time savings was a very important factor to consider when purchasing a prep-marking system, and 12 of them said time savings with PrepCheck was excellent or very good.
A dentist from New Hampshire reported, "We want something that we can pick up and use without a lot of down time to practice."
Overall Satisfaction
"Over and under reduction is a big concern. PrepCheck will help alleviate some of these issues," reported a North Carolina evaluator who rated overall satisfaction as excellent.
When asked what he would like to see improved about PrepCheck, one dentist summarized his experience by saying, "Honestly, the product is well-designed as is. No overt areas of improvement are needed."
