In restorative dentistry, even small choices—such as which instruments to routinely reach for—can make everyday procedures smoother and help support more predictable outcomes.
While evaluating Paradise Dental Technologies’ DrV composite instruments for DPS, Dr. R.J. Sondkar discovered that they “match all the criteria of a well-designed instrument set,” highlighting how they “make composite materials easier to place, manipulate, and contour.”
“The DrV series is a great set of quality instruments that is perfect for all composite restorative procedures,” he continued. “The instruments feature an excellent design, which is lightweight with a well-balanced grip in the hand, and the flex and workability of the tips are a notch above the rest. They are definitely a good consideration for your everyday restorative practice.”
Ease of Placing, Shaping, and Contouring
The complete set of 4 DrV composite instruments, which can also be purchased individually, is designed to streamline material placement and occlusal modeling, while minimizing sticking for smoother handling.
“My favorite thing about this product is the ease of placing composite and the ability to handle the composite without it sticking to the instruments,” Dr. Vallerie Kee said. “It also made for easy cleanup for my assistant.”
Looking for “ease of placing composites,” Dr. David Gleaner said the instruments “seemed to function nicely.” When asked what he liked best, Dr. Tim Fagan said, “Composite materials do not stick to these instruments.” Dr. April Detar wished for less sticking to the instruments, but she also found the DrV series offered “good contours to help place fillings.”
“The shape of the paddle on the purple instrument (3-4) was perfect for large composites that required wall construction,” Dr. Jackie Cheng explained, “and the fine tips on the light blue instrument (1-2) were excellent for carving anatomy and creating anatomically accurate marginal ridges.” She mentioned that since another doctor in her practice borrowed the DrV set, “he now swears by the dark blue instrument (7-8).” Dr. Brad Barker “loved the instrument used for interproximal and cervical areas.”
For Dr. Shannon Johnson, “The yellow instrument (5-6) became a staple; it was the first instrument used on nearly every composite I placed.” Overall, she was pleased that “the shapes of these instruments handled 97% of the resins placed with ease, quickly becoming my go-to instrument setup for all restorative work.”
High-Quality, Ergonomic Design
The DrV composite instruments combine durable stainless-steel construction with ultralight resin handles for clinician comfort. Plus, the handles are color-coded for easy identification.
Dr. Kee enjoyed the instruments’ quality and beautiful colors, and another dentist commented, “It was easier for the assistants to visually identify the instruments based on the color-coded handles.”
“I was super impressed with how light these instruments were and how easy they were to grip,” Dr. Johnson said, adding, “I noticed considerably less hand fatigue after long procedures.”
Dr. Kimberly Bolden “especially liked the lightweight, ergonomic design of the handles,” Dr. Mohannad Almajdalani “appreciated the ergonomic grip and handling,” and Dr. Gleaner praised the instruments’ “nice handle design.”
Comprehensive Tip Variety
“The instruments definitely gave us more options for different shapes, angles, and morphologies,” Dr. Kelly Betts said. She specifically used the DrV composite instruments on a case involving both mandibular anteriors and premolars and “was able to create exceptional precure anatomy.”
Dr. Betts expressed some concern about the delicate working ends of the instruments, but Dr. Cheng assured, “So far, any of these instruments that have been sterilized individually in a pouch have held up well and show no signs of damage.”
“I had to build up a molar after 2 cusps had fractured off, and build up 2 walls for the crown abutment,” Dr. Cheng recalled. “The purple handle instrument (3-4) was perfect for the job. I was able to shape smooth walls that needed no editing very quickly and had great results.”
Dr. Bolden found it “very easy to shape and contour anterior Class Vs,” and Dr. Johnson achieved success in “a standard Class II MO restoration on tooth No. 19 for a patient with a lot of groovy anatomy.”
Overall Satisfaction
“I really enjoyed the product,” Dr. Kee said. “The instruments positively impacted my chairside experience and practice as a whole by reducing clinical time during procedures and improving the overall restorative results for my patients. I plan to continue using them.”
Dr. Johnson summed up her evaluation experience, saying, “These instruments were a joy to use. They are easy to hold and shaped well for a variety of applications. They are almost weightless and have practical tip shapes that made my everyday dentistry better. What else could I ask for?”
