SockIt! can be applied in the office and sent home with the patient for use as often as needed.
SockIt! consists entirely of food ingredients, with no artificial ingredients or narcotics. SockIt! contains mannose polysaccharides from aloe vera, xylitol, as well as essential oils of cinnamon, clove, and thyme.
Dental Product Shopper enlisted 8 dentists to test SockIt! on their everyday patients. With a combined 125 years in dentistry, these clinicians rated and commented on the product's pain reduction, increased healing, and more.
Pain Reduction and Healing
The pain-prevention feature of SockIt! works in 2 ways. First, a thin layer of the gel adheres to injured oral tissues and helps protect them from further irritation and contamination. Its pH is compatible with saliva to be soothing to oral tissues. Second, the gel matrix prevents the initiation of a pain signal. It is not absorbed into tissues or the bloodstream, and it does not numb tissues as do benzocaine, lidocaine, and other topical anesthetics.
When asked to rate the pain reduction/ comfort feature of SockIt!, 2 called it excellent, 4 called it very good, and 2 called it good. One of the evaluators commented, "A significant number of my patients were able to use [SockIt!] for pain relief instead of a narcotic analgesic."
An evaluator with 8 years of experience in dentistry said, "[I placed] 2 immediate dentures with 0 adjustments or complaints of discomfort at their 24- hour postoperative check."
SockIt! claims to be able to promote optimal healing of oral wounds. Four evaluators rated this feature as excellent, 2 rated it very good, and 1 rated it good (1 evaluator declined to rate this feature). A Mississippi-based oral surgeon commented, "The product improves wound healing and decreases the incidence of postoperative sequelae."
Patient Experience
According to MCMP, SockIt! contains no drugs, has no toxicity or contraindications, can be used on all patient populations, and is safe when swallowed. The clinician can simply send SockIt! and an instruction sheet home with the patient for continuous pain relief and wound care.
In rating the incidence of postoperative complaints, 4 evaluators called SockIt! excellent and 3 called it good (1 evaluator declined to rate this feature).
The evaluators rated patient satisfaction, as well. Two called it excellent, 4 called it very good, and 2 called it good. An evaluator with 26 years of experience said, "Patients were pleased with the taste and ease of use and mostly by the pain reduction." Another evaluator commented, "Patient compliance with the product was very good. Usage instructions were easy to follow."
The most common complaint from evaluators was the viscosity of SockIt! This sentiment can be summed up by 1 of the evaluators, who remarked, "The gel is too runny. Patients' only complaint is that they would like for the product to be thicker."
Overall Satisfaction
When the evaluators were asked to rate their overall satisfaction with Sock- It! gel, 3 called it excellent, 3 called it very good, and 2 called it good.
One dentist said, "We were able to incorporate this quickly in our practice. We have been faithful users of [a competing product] until SockIt! was introduced to our practice. The only negative comment from a couple of our patients was the aftertaste. Other than that our patients have raved about this product."
A clinician who practices dentistry in New York added, "The product is excellent overall. I believe every dentist should try it!"
