Pac-Dent’s EzAim Defend 3-in-1 Collimator Positioning System offers dental professionals a simple solution for smart, streamlined dental imaging. Compatible with all EzAim bite blocks for digital sensors, phosphor plates, and traditional film, the system’s compact and lightweight design eliminates the need for extra parts during the imaging process and protects patients from unnecessary radiation exposure. It also pairs easily with EzAim ComforTabs, which are soft and cushioned adhesive sensor holders designed to optimize patient comfort.

“My assistants were skeptical at first, but they liked the ease of positioning and comfort for the patient,” Dr. Steven Berwitz said. By the end of the trial period, “This product was approved by my dental assistants. The bite block holder was soft and small, so patients liked it, and positioning was easier,” he added.

Accurate Positioning and Alignment

The EzAim Defend 3-in-1 Collimator Positioning System enables quick and accurate positioning and alignment with its easily adjustable, color-coded ring—making it easier for clinicians to capture desired anatomy while taking bitewing, anterior, and posterior images. Both the ring and positioning arms are fully autoclavable.

With her existing imaging equipment, hygienist Amy Singletary expressed dissatisfaction “changing all of the rings and rods during an FMX,” but with EzAim Defend, she was pleased “using only 1 ring, 1 rod, and disposable bite pieces to do an FMX,” she said. “It was a great improvement. You can just turn and use! It was also easy for bitewing radiographs, and the accuracy was perfect.”

Hygienist Lisa Concordia felt there was a learning curve to feel comfortable using the system with patients, but Dr. David Mastrota praised it for the ease of use and simple positioning. Dr. Tim Fagan called it a “time-saver,” explaining that its efficiency lies in the ability to simply rotate the color-coded positioning ring. “It allows for quick and accurate alignment and reduces the number of parts needed to take accurate radiographs, eliminating the need to swap out various positioning rings,” he said.

Less Radiation, Improved Diagnostics

The EzAim Defend system’s universal positioning ring with the built-in collimator helps enhance diagnostics while reducing radiation exposure.

“I liked that the collimator reduced radiation and enhanced the diagnostics,” Dr. Mary Gadbois said, recognizing how the system “fills the void between free handing x-rays and using an aiming device.”

Concordia noted, “All x-rays taken were quality,” and Amy Corder, RDH, affirmed, “It reduces radiation exposure, helps open contacts, and prevents cone cuts.”

Patient Comfort

The EzAim ComforTabs aim to provide a more pleasant patient experience during radiographic procedures. Their nonslip sur-face keeps sensors securely in place, while the gentle yet stable design minimizes movement and discomfort, ensuring more consistent, high-quality images.

Having faced previous challenges with his office’s sensor holders, which some-times resulted in sensors becoming dis-lodged, Dr. Berwitz described the EzAim sensor holders to be “extremely helpful.” He also said, “With the adhesive backing, the sensor stayed in the correct orientation,” although he wished for a clip or adapter to hold the cord out of the way.

Hygienist Rebecca Campbell’s patients told her the EzAim ComforTabs were less bulky than other options. “The padded bite tabs allowed even the most sensitive patients to hold the sensor stable for x-rays,” she said. Similarly, Concordia believed the cushioned bite tabs were more comfortable for patients, and Dr. Berwitz shared that patient comfort exceeded expectations, with multiple patients commenting on it positively.

Overall Satisfaction

Overall, Dr. Berwitz emphasized, “The significant benefits of this system were patient comfort, the ability to visualize the x-ray through the collimator, and the hold to the sensor.”

As someone who prefers using less equipment, Singletary had a positive experience reviewing the EzAim Defend 3-in-1 Collimator Positioning System, finding it helps simplify imaging and saves time. “I love using 1 ring,” she concluded.

“I would recommend this product, especially for students.”
