Lecturing internationally on advanced dental implant procedures, Dr. Tawil received his dental degree from NYU College of Dentistry and has a master’s degree in biology from Long Island University. He is the president of Advanced Implant Education and clinical director at Shining 3D. He has received diplomate status from the International Academy of Dental Implantology and fellowship status with the International Congress of Oral Implantology and the Advanced Dental Implant Academy. He has a general practice in Brooklyn, NY, focused on implant therapy.

Intraoral scanners have grown to become an industry standard, but when it comes to full-arch therapy, a significant obstacle persists—accurately capturing the distances between implants,” explained Dr. Isaac Tawil. While extraoral photogrammetric devices address this issue, he said, many clinicians are wary of opening their wallets for yet another piece of equipment.

It’s a problem that’s solved with SHINING 3D’s new Aoralscan Elite, a 2-in-1 system that blends intraoral scanning and photogrammetry into one easy-to-use device. By reducing the complexity and cost associated with traditional photogrammetry, Aoralscan Elite offers clinicians a more accessible and practical tool for full-arch therapy, while paving the way for improved clinical outcomes.

Capturing Accurate Implant Positions

“This sleek, ergonomic scanner not only offers advanced scanning capabilities but also includes first-of-its-kind intraoral photogrammetry (IPG) technology, which captures both the soft tissue position and the scan bodies seamlessly,” shared Dr. Tawil. “Aoralscan Elite eliminates several steps compared with extraoral photogrammetry, making it a cost-effective and efficient solution for capturing accurate implant positions directly within the oral cavity.”

Shining a Light on Efficiency

When Aoralscan Elite is used in conjunction with SHINING 3D’s MetiSmile facial scanner and AccuFab-CEL 3D printing system, the design and fabrication process for full-arch prosthetic therapy is enhanced even further.

Aoralscan Elite captures dental arches and implant positions with high precision, while the MetiSmile adds another layer of detailed anatomical information. Once the design phase is complete, the AccuFab-CEL fabricates highly accurate and durable prosthetics directly from the digital design in a much shorter timeframe than traditional methods.

“The synergy between the facial scanner, intraoral scanner, and 3D printing system streamlines the full-arch treatment process, making it more efficient and cost-effective,” noted Dr. Tawil. “Dental practitioners can offer high-quality prosthetics with faster turnaround times, reduced margin for error, and enhanced patient satisfaction—all while using an approach that ensures the prosthetics are not only accurate in terms of fit and function, but also esthetically pleasing and aligned perfectly with the patient’s facial structure.”
