Ditch the Paste and Polish with a Twist

Sometimes, that infamous gray line between too much and not enough can be a bit blurry. Take, for example, the challenges that arise when polishing restorations. Clinicians may shape and polish ad nauseam while working toward the goal of a perfect restoration, yet in the back of their minds is the hidden danger of over-contouring tooth structure.

With the addition of the Jazz Twist Polishing System, a new set of polishers added to SS White’s Jazz line, Gregori Kurtzman, DDS, MAGD, FPFA, FACD, FIADFE, DICOI, DADIA, DIDIA, believes that this particular issue is no longer a concern.

Adapts to Tooth Anatomy

“Most polisher shapes that are available on the market today are points, cups, and wheels,” Dr. Kurtzman explained. “Although they are good for facial surfaces, many don't adapt well to the contour of the tooth surface, sometimes actually removing anatomy from the occlusal surface. Because of their design, Jazz Twist polishers adapt to the tooth anatomy and give a better polish with less effort.”

No Need for Paste

Jazz Twist polishers are available in a variety of sizes and grits, are autoclavable, and can adjust and polish direct and indirect restorations. Their unique design allows them to be particularly effective at reaching grooves and adapting to any material surface—including composite, porcelain, and zirconia—without the need for paste. They are also efficient on occlusal and interproximal surfaces.

“A perfect example of why I like the new Twist polishers is the Occluflex, because normally I would use a point or a cup for occlusal polishing,” Dr. Kurtzman shared. “The Occluflex has ‘stalks’ on it that allow it to adapt to the existing anatomy and I can get into areas that I’ve had difficulty getting into with other polishers. It takes me less time to get a good polish. Best of all, because they adapt so well to tooth surfaces, I’m no longer obliterating occlusal anatomy,” he added.
