Designed from the ground up to replace amalgam, Stela is a high-performance, self-curing restorative with a simple, 2-step process

No curing light? Check! No etching? Check! Amalgam-like performance sans all the negatives? Check! Sound too good to be true? Rest assured, it’s not. Stela is a high-performance, self-curing composite that provides a gap-free interface with low polymerization stress—all in 2 simple steps. It’s the simplicity of these 2 steps that has made a huge impact in the restorative workflow of Stephen Rosenberg, DMD, who practices in Boca Raton, FL.

Simplifying Restorations

“Stela has simplified several procedures in my daily workflow,” Dr. Rosenberg shared. “There are 2 steps in applying Stela and the need for curing multiple layers is alleviated, which makes procedures simpler, faster, and easier for both myself, my assistants, and my patients.

”Stela is an innovative composite that uses a 2-step process consisting of the Stela Primer and either a capsule or automix restorative to quickly achieve esthetic restorations. It employs a tailored combination of BPA-free resin monomers, SDI’s bioactive and proprietary hybrid glass, and surface-modified nanoparticles of amorphous silica for a strong, resilient material.

Cure with Confidence

There’s no etching required with Stela, nor does it require a light cure to polymerize, a step that often results in shrinkage and can pull the restorative from the cavity walls, creating microgaps, postop sensitivity, marginal leakage with staining, and recurrent caries. When used with Stela Primer, which contains a catalyst, Stela’s self-cure polymerization sequence microscopically pulls the restorative toward the cavity for a gap-free, rapid, and unlimited depth of cure.

“With Stela, I have more confidence in the depth of cure in larger, deeper restorations and core buildups,” Dr. Rosenberg added. “We’ve had no reports of postop sensitivity, and it’s also been useful in a few cases of extensive decay in elderly patients with limited ability to undergo treatment.”

Stela is indicated for Class I, II, III, and V restorations, as well as core buildups, as a base or liner, and sealing endodontic access cavities in areas inaccessible to light.

“I’ve used Stela mostly for core buildups and larger posterior fillings,” Dr. Rosenberg shared. “The ability to use it for different types of restorations in the same appointment simplifies, speeds up, and improves the process. It also prepares well in buildups without ditching, and offers very good marginal adaptation.”
