Properly cementing restorations is a vital part of the treatment procedure, and it deserves careful attention. Making a mistake in this area can result in having to replace the entire restoration, or even worse, losing the abutment teeth prematurely. Fortunately, one cement on the market today makes it simple for dentists to quickly and simply place virtually any type of restoration.

Simplification

There are only a select few products in my practice that I recommend to other dentists as a ?must buy,? and 3M ESPE RelyX Unicem Self-Adhesive Universal Resin Cement is one of them. This dual-cured resin cement eliminates the laborious etching, priming, and bonding steps involved in many other cementing procedures, simplifying both your inventory and your chairside procedure. What used to take at least 4 steps can be accomplished in 1 with RelyX Unicem cement.

Clinical History

RelyX Unicem has both a long clinical history and a large number of applications. Its self-adherent and moisture- tolerant properties save time and reduce the potential for postoperative sensitivity. It has an excellent clinical record of providing strong bonds, and it can be used with nearly any type of restoration, including gold, PFMs, full porcelain crowns, resin and porcelain inlays and onlays, posts of all types including metal and zirconia, and 3M ESPE Lava and other zirconia core ceramic systems. Additionally, there is no significant expansion, so it can be used to seat conventional all-ceramic and leucite-reinforced ceramic crowns, which must be bonded for ultimate strength. It is also available in various shades, allowing dentists to achieve an esthetic color match when using translucent restorations. The only indication not suited for RelyX Unicem cement is porcelain veneers. In these situations, I use RelyX Veneer Cement, a totally light-cured system designed and optimized exclusively for veneers.

User-Friendly and Predictable

RelyX Unicem is user-friendly and easy to mix, and it behaves predictably in most clinical situations. Excess cement becomes tacky when cured, making it easy to remove. Its availability in the Clicker Dispenser makes it simple to dispense the proper amount without triturating. Staff members like it because there is no need for fancy instrumentation. The unit dose Aplicap and Maxicap Capsules are available, for dentists who prefer them.

I have been using RelyX Unicem cement since it was introduced in 2002, and if I could have only one cement in my practice, this would be it. If you haven?t yet tried RelyX Unicem cement, I believe you owe it to yourself to experience this product.
