Why I Use: 3M Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive

When I got out of dental school in 2000, there were basically 3 different steps to the bonding process. It then evolved to where some of the steps were combined, but companies were trying to fi gure out how to do it all in one system. That was the dream.
Today, that dream has been realized. With 3M Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive, I have everything I need in 1 bottle. I call it the Swiss army knife of dental adhesives. Scotchbond Universal was already a great material, 3M just tweaked it a bit to make it simpler and better.
A Radiopaque Universal Adhesive
One of the challenges with adhesives in the past was that they didn’t show up very well on x-rays. You could be looking at an area with extra adhesive and think it’s an open margin, gap, or decay. Evolving the material to make it radiopaque is huge because now it looks like dentin on x-rays, allowing for a more accurate diagnosis.
Reduced Inventory
Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive offers dual- and self-cure compatibility, so I no longer have to keep dual-cure activators in the office. There’s also no need for separate primers or silane. This further simplifi es the process, giving dental professionals a material that’s both reliable and easy to use.
Strength + Simplicity = High Quality
The adhesive is extremely easy to dispense. The bottle closes nicely, and the material is easy to apply. It also bonds well in a lot of different environments—even when there’s saliva or sclerotic dentin. 3M Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive also has silanes and the MDP monomer built into it, which allows it to bond better to glass ceramics and zirconia. Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive provides simplicity for the bonding process, while giving you the high-quality bond you need. Dentists usually look at simplicity and quality as a juxtaposition. Now, you have something that provides both. 3M Scotchbond Universal Plus Adhesive is truly a valuable evolution of an already great product. It’s my workhorse. I don’t have any other adhesives in my office; this is all I use.
