Trios 4
As intraoral scanners evolve to include even smarter technology, they can meet the needs of a wide range of workflows, ultimately helping the practice increase and enhance the services it provides. As many clinicians have found, the perfect example of this is 3Shape, which shook up the dental industry more than a decade ago with the launch of TRIOS. In the time since, 3Shape has continued to introduce new generations of TRIOS with features such as real-color scanning, unprecedented speed, built-in shade measurement, wireless scanning, and a broad spectrum of partner integrations.
The company’s most recent triumph is TRIOS 4, a powerful system with the most realistic color scans, engagement apps, increased battery life, and smart tips with instant heating for optimized scanning. The open workflow ecosystem integrates with orthodontic, implant, practice management, and sleep treatment manufacturers and providers.
With 3Shape’s software options, clinicians can plan and perform in-house design and production for restorative, orthodontic, and implant cases. The Splint Studio streamlines the design and fabrication of all major single-jaw types of occlusal splints, and the TRIOS Design Studio allows the design and creation of a range of restorations. The Implant Studio can be used to plan, design, and print custom surgical guides, and the Clear Aligner Studio helps the dental team design and produce aligners.
Efficient Lab Workflow
With the TRIOS digital CAD/CAM workflow, sending a case to the lab is as simple as capturing a scan, choosing a 3Shape Ready lab from within the software, and sending the scan, photos, and case description to your lab of choice through the 3Shape Communicate portal. With over 20,000 3Shape Ready labs to choose from, there is a lab partner to meet the needs of virtually every clinical scenario.
After sending the case, you can stay connected with the lab by accessing the 3Shape Communicate portal via an app on a smartphone or desktop computer. “It allows me to see and approve steps along the way during the lab process, or just check and see when a case will be delivered,” Dr. G. Franklin Shull Jr. said. “It gives you as much information as you need. Most scanners offer some sort of connectivity to your lab partners, but it’s not nearly at the level that 3Shape provides.”
Streamlined Services
Before adopting the TRIOS 4, Dr. Edouard Lanoiselée, a general practitioner and dental surgeon, used the TRIOS 3. He said that the newer model, as well as the applications that come with it, have allowed him to see more patients in a shorter amount of time. “The new scanner is significantly faster,” he said. “It makes it easier to scan all metal units. The tip heats up in just a few seconds—there is no waiting time, which is very helpful.”
He also said he can share the scanner with his colleague. “She has her own TRIOS MOVE unit, and I have mine, but we can quickly transfer the scanner from one room to another after charging the tip.” Because it’s wireless, it’s not confined to one area or even one operatory. “The long battery life is also convenient,” he explained, “as I see between 20 and 25 patients a day; I can sometimes last a whole day with a single battery.”
