A Single-Use Bur for That 'Hollywood' Smile
Always fresh and sharp, Komet's German-engineered single-use carbide and diamond burs are the perfect solution for fine-tuning restorative and ortho treatment
Artists summon the finest brushes and an exquisite palette of paints to complete their masterpieces. In a similar way, clinicians also choose their best-performing, most reliable instruments for the final adjustments to their cosmetic and orthodontic cases.
For Lisa Davison, DDS, an orthodontist in Powell, OH, most of her patients have spent a great deal of time awaiting their new smiles. To give them what she refers to as their "Hollywood" smiles, Dr. Davison relies on Komet’s single-use diamond and carbide burs in a variety of case scenarios.
Fine-Tuning Patients' Smiles
“I use them for fine-tuning, and to make the edges of the teeth more even. Once I’ve straightened with brackets and gotten the teeth properly aligned, I find that a little bit of reshaping with the Komet burs—especially if the enamel is rough or uneven on the edges—can make a huge difference in a patient’s smile,” she explained.
“ There’s something about the design and engineering—they work well, and they work quickly.”

To carefully remove adhesive after disengaging orthodontic appliances, Dr. Davison reaches for Komet’s single-use carbide burs. Additionally, she also uses Komet’s single-use diamond burs for enamel-plasty and IPR.
Her favorites? “Primarily, I use the football bur when I use the diamonds and the flame-shaped carbide bur for my orthodontic debonding procedures,” she explained. “I find the extra-fine flame bur is really what gives me that beautiful shine to the enamel as I take off the adhesive,” she added.
Show Those Pearly Whites
“I’m looking at whether the distal edge is curved enough, or if the patient prefers that I square it off or round it out,” she continued. “This last part, after all the tinkering and engineering, is when we can talk about giving patients their ‘Hollywood' smile.”
With a selection of 239 presterilized shapes, sizes, and shanks, the German-engineered Komet single-use burs are manufactured to strict ISO standards and packaged in a class 7 clean room using gamma irradiation sterilization.
“The benefit of a single-use bur to our orthodontic practice is that we use it once, and we toss it,” said Dr. Davison. “Single-use burs create efficiency for us, as there’s no guessing about whether the product will work or not. There’s something about the design and engineering—they work well, and they work quickly,” she concluded.
