The Inspire Sterilization Center provides busy practices with a streamlined sterilization process and features specific areas for receiving, cleaning, preparation, packaging, sterilization, and storage—an arrangement that promotes a safer, more secure environment for both patients and dental staff.
For Mike Micallef, DDS, of Family Tree Dentistry in Glendale, WI, the decision to move to the Inspire Sterilization Center came at a time when the practice was in the midst of relocating to another location.
“We made the decision to integrate a galley-styled sterilization area,” he explained. “Our previous space was 1/5 the size, plus it was made of non-customized cabinets and features,” he added.
Color-Coded for Added Safety
Here’s how it works: Color-coded cabinet doors—red for contaminated, and blue for clean—provide visual cues for dental staff that intuitively guide them through the sterilization process and help eliminate the chance of cross-contamination or accidental exposure to microorganisms and contaminants.
“Having the Inspire improves our workflow efficiency because the modular design moves the staff in an organized flow from dirty to clean, and then allows us to rebuild and reload our tray setups in a seamless way,” Dr. Micallef explained.
Materials and instruments can be moved directly from the sterilization center to treatment rooms, and used materials can then be returned to the Inspire Sterilization Center for processing. Drawer inserts can be custom configured to create a productive flow for each practice based on their needs. Wire dividers can be easily adjusted to customize each room’s cassette organization, while customizable make-ready bins can store items for prep trays and tubs.
“My staff and I love everything about this system!” Dr. Micallef said. “The organization, the flow, and the dryer with wave-start operation are all awesome features,” he continued.
Convenient Wave-Start Control
The instrument dryer can be started by waving a hand under the photoelectric sensor located on the upper cabinet and features convenient foot pedal operation. All drawers and shelves remove for easy access to wiring and utilities, and A-dec offers several drawer styles to accommodate a variety of applications. The sink module includes an air syringe for purging water from handpieces and attachments and also features a foot-activated faucet control. Additionally, an integrated, slide-out waterproof shelf is specially designed to accommodate cassette- and chamber-style autoclaves and protect cabinets and floors from spills.
“The foot pedal-operated faucet, convenient shelving, glove storage, and an easy access pull-out counter for the autoclave are all great features. A-dec never ceases to amaze me,” Dr. Micallef added.
Hands-Free Door Operation
As an added convenience, the power-assisted waste storage drawer can be opened with a slight knee or hip bump for total hands-free operation. All doors are made with a handy soft-close feature, and the system allows for glove, towel, soap, and hand sanitizer dispensers.
“As far as features go, you name it, A-dec has it,” he added. “At first, I admit I was a bit skeptical, especially in these cost-conscious times, but seeing now how my staff loves using the system and how it makes us more organized, functional, and efficient in our day-to-day operations, I can now say that it has been worth the investment and more.
