Ultradent’s tried-and-true Triodent V3 Ring has tried-and-true Triodent V3 Ring has been a go-to for Dr. Bilyana Tesic for many years thanks to its easy-to-use design, which gives her consistently accurate contacts in a variety of cases. Trying the Halo sectional matrix system, including the new Halo Short Ring, "reminded me why Ultradent is my favorite," she said.

"I still love my V3 Ring, but now that I have used the Halo matrix, I fi nd that it consistently delivers almost no overhang, which cuts the finishing time significantly," Dr. Tesic continued. "I only have to do minimal flash cleanup."

Halo matrix bands are pre-shaped to reduce flash and save finishing and polishing time, while Halo rings feature glass-filled nylon tines that hold the matrix band securely while being gentle on soft tissue.

"I noticed the interproximal contacts were broader and tighter, even without burnishing the matrix—I actually had to polish the contact down so it wasn't too tight,” Dr. Tesic added. "Marginal ridges anatomically mirrored the natural tooth anatomy."

Halo Short and Universal Rings

The Halo Short Ring recently joined the fold to handle cases where the Halo Universal Ring sits taller than the tooth. On short clinical crowns, larger rings can rise above the occlusal plane, blocking visibility and access. The Halo Short Ring keeps everything lower while still delivering adequate separation.

"I absolutely loved both rings, with the Halo Short Ring coming in handy for clinically short premolars," Dr. Tesic said. "The smooth ring surface allows for easier cleanup and sterilization. Both rings are comfortable for patients when placed, and the amount of pressure allows for the matrix band to be completely seated and sealed. They are also easy to stack for MO/DO restorations."

An Organized System

Also stackable and color-coded by size, Halo wedges collapse in tight interproximal spaces to adapt the matrix band at the gingival margin. Calling the Halo wedges "firm," Dr. Tesic found herself double-wedging in wider interproximal spaces.

Rounding out the system, the 3-inch by 6-inch carousel dispenser keeps the entire Halo lineup neat and organized to minimize drops and spills, giving each component its own compartment under a transparent lid for quick selection.

"I found the carousel dispenser to be quite sturdy and helpful in keeping the system organized," Dr. Tesic said. "I remain a happy Ultradent customer."
