There’s no shortage of aligners these days and they’re all designed to straighten teeth and make beautiful smiles. But the similarities tend to end there. Manufactured from various materials, and contoured and priced differently, choosing an aligner requires research, and in some cases, good old-fashioned experience.
In his Orlando, FL, orthodontics practice, Andre Baptiste, DDS, has spent years fitting conventional wire-and-bracket braces on patients of all ages, and he’s used several brands of aligners as well, but he was just not seeing the results he wanted. About 6 years ago, he began using ClearCorrect aligners. Since then he’s used the aligners on patients from 6 to over 60 years old—and he’s been very pleased with the results.
“I believe that the trays fit better than the other aligners I’ve tried and there are less attachments and engagers,” Dr. Baptiste explained. “The treatment times are shorter and the cost is significantly less than any of the other aligners I’ve used, which is a big advantage,” he added.

“I’ve had cases where I’ve not needed to do extractions with the aligners,” Dr. Baptiste said. “I’ve found that we can maintain anchorage much better with aligners than we can with traditional braces. For example, when we do IPR on a traditional braces case, we lose a lot of the IPR space just from anchorage slipping. But when we do IPR with aligners, we get almost 100% of the space to unravel the crowding and retract,” he explained.

ClearQuartz Clarity
ClearCorrect’s state-of-the-art tri-layer, third-generation aligner material called ClearQuartz displays remarkable clarity and is proven to optimize retention. “I’ve worn ClearCorrect aligners myself, so I know they are very comfortable, and they’re easy to wear,” Dr. Baptiste said. “With these trays, I see fewer patients complaining about the aligners cutting or irritating them, which was quite common with the other aligner companies I’ve used in the past. Clinicians can combine cutouts and elastics with ClearCorrect aligner treatments, and while he uses his own cutouts when needed, Dr. Baptiste said he also occasionally uses elastics in cases where he sees a tooth is not tracking. Looking back over his many ClearCorrect cases over the years, Dr. Baptiste said he’s had successful outcomes for both complex and moderate cases.
“My most challenging cases are my Class III underbites, which in many cases, we’ve been able to correct nonsurgically with a very acceptable result for the patient,” he explained. “I also remember a moderate case involving an older patient who had some edentulous spaces. We were trying to align the lower teeth but it was difficult to get anchorage—teeth were rotating— and conventional metal braces were just not working. We put her in ClearCorrect and we were able to finish her case in just 6 months. I’d probably still be working on her case if we had not put her in the ClearCorrect aligners.”
