Can you straighten my teeth?” It’s a question dentists hear every day—and it’s not just adults asking. With 70% of children diagnosed with malocclusions before age 12, parents are increasingly seeking solutions as well. For dentists, that demand often leads to another question: Where can I get training to provide orthodontics in-house?

A Clear Path to Orthodontic Success

For more than 35 years, Rondeau Seminars has offered continuing education credits in orthodontics to more than 24,000 dentists around the world. Founded by Brock Rondeau, IBO, DABCP, D-ACSDD, DABCDSM, the program was born from the absence of an orthodontic curriculum tailored to dentists.

“When I graduated dental school in 1966, there was no formal education in orthodontics, TMD, or sleep-related breathing disorders for general dentists,” Dr. Rondeau shared, “and because they weren’t trained in orthodontics, dentists would refer their patients to specialists without knowing if the diagnosis and treatment plans were correct.”

Orthodontics generally takes 1 of 2 approaches: traditional or extraction-based treatment to align teeth, or functional appliances that expand arches.

“Traditional orthodontics often assumes that dental crowding is caused by teeth that are too large, and the common treatment approach is extraction of permanent teeth with limited consideration of arch,” Dr. Rondeau said, which is why Rondeau Seminars takes the latter approach to orthodontic treatment.

Rondeau’s recently launched, expanded, and case-based Functional Orthodontic Mastery Program offers a streamlined framework, making it easier to accommodate training into busy schedules. The result is a faster implementation, which means clinicians can quickly begin to improve patients’ health while enjoying a marked increase in ROI and practice growth.

Treating the Whole Patient

"Rondeau changed how I look at patients, not just what I offer them," said Dr. Gurpreet Chohan, who has attended Rondeau Seminars and seen firsthand the benefits of a functional orthodontic workflow. "The biggest shift for me was moving away from seeing orthodontics as simply straightening teeth and moving toward understanding etiology, function, and airway."

“The functional approach offers a comprehensive treatment philosophy that addresses not only alignment but also airway health, facial esthetics, TMJ function, and sleep quality,” Dr. Rondeau added. “Focusing on arch development and mandibular positioning rather than extractions provides long-term benefits that extend far beyond straight teeth.”
