DPS highlights 3 Kerr restorative materials that our readers turn to for a simplified process and reliable results

There are many reasons Dr. DeLayne Lefevre has trusted Kerr products in her Elwood, IN, practice for over 2 decades. For starters, the seal is always stain-free when using Kerr resins and adhesives. Her crowns and buildups do not come out of the tooth, and even short clinical preparation crowns have good retention with OptiBond and NX3 universal resin cement.

“I am confident that using Kerr restoratives will always provide superior results to my patients,” Dr. Lefevre said. And she's not alone. Here, we highlight 3 Kerr materials that DPS readers rely on for strong and esthetic restorations.

Temp-Bond: Easy Cleanup for the Win

A go-to material for reliable temporization, Temp-Bond is available in 3 formulations: Temp-Bond, Temp-Bond NE (non-eugenol), and Temp-Bond Clear with Triclosan, the latter of which is frequently used by Dr. Lefevre thanks to its enhanced esthetics. Dual-cured and available in convenient automix syringes, it prevents leakage and sensitivity.

“Temp-Bond is easy to clean up and has good retention yet can easily be removed when it’s time to seat the permanent restoration,” Dr. Lefevre shared. “It adapts well to the interior surface of the temp crowns and is comfortable for patients.”

OptiBond: Bond Confidently Every Time

DPS readers rely on OptiBond to create an optimal bond to all surfaces and substrates. Dr. Lefevre has used OptiBond XTR for years and plans to transition to OptiBond Universal 360 once inventory is depleted.

“I never worry about debonding of indirect restorations like anterior crowns or veneers when using OptiBond,” she shared. “I also don't see discoloration at the margins on the direct restorations when using OptiBond with Kerr composites like SimpliShade or Harmonize.”

“Dark cure mode is a truly extraordinary feature of this product,” Dr. Michelle Na said of OptiBond Universal 360. “It has etching, priming, and bonding all in one bottle, which makes the whole bonding process so simple.”

SimpliShade Bulk Fill: Just One Step to Success

Kerr’s SimpliShade family of composites includes SimpliShade Bulk Fill. A 1-step, 1-shade material, it features an enhanced curing mechanism that achieves polymerization depths of up to 5 mm in 1 SingleFill.

“The finish is superior with SimpliShade,” Dr. Lefevre said. “When I use SimpliShade Bulk Fill, the x-rays show complete adaptation to the cavity space on buildups, and I feel confi dent in its polymerization.”
