Why has the dental profession been unable to find an answer to periodontal disease? The answers lie in the nature of the disease (biofilm) and the methods of treatments. Periodontal disease is a chronic wound being treated by acute wound modalities such as scaling and root planing and debridement. The AMA has chronic wound guidelines that apply to periodontal treatments. These are demonstrated with time/proven results.
