When applied as a routine preventive service, dental sealants can offer a tremendous oral health benefit to both children and adult patients. Yet while sealants are designed to prevent decay by forming a protective shield over the enamel, there has been some concern over materials formulated with bisphenol-A (BPA). Research from the ADA Science Institute shows the BPA release from dental sealants is extremely low—patients are more likely to be exposed to it from food, sunscreen, and even cash register receipts—but choosing a sealant that steers clear of potentially harmful substances is inarguably the safest route.
A Safe Choice for Preventive Care
Patterson Pit & Fissure Sealant is not manufactured with BPA as a component ingredient, and in a clinical test of sealants with similar formulas, none was shown to release residual BPA. In addition to its safe formulation, Patterson Pit & Fissure Sealant inhibits dental caries by sealing occlusal surfaces, which protects teeth from the acid conditions caused by oral bacteria and dietary carbohydrates.
The light-cured, radiopaque, fluoride-releasing pit and fissure sealant has a pearlescent color that is easily seen in the mouth. A low-viscosity formulation is 7.7% filled, while the regular viscosity is 34.4% filled. It is also gluten-free and manufactured in the United States.
