Out with the old, in with the new” may not always be the best approach—especially when it comes to dental impressions. Despite advancements in digital technology, conventional impression materials and techniques still have their place in modern dentistry. Today’s dentists continue to rely on tried-and-true impression materials, particularly vinyl polysiloxane (VPS), for their accuracy, reliability, and proven performance.

One Material, Endless Efficiencies

When Florida dentist Dr. Adam Beno needs to take a conventional impression, his go-to material is Patterson Dental’s Reflection, a super-hydrophilic VPS impression material with excellent dimensional accuracy and stability. A versatile material that performs well with many impression techniques, Reflection is suitable for crown and bridge, denture, partial denture, reline, or bite registration impressions.

Noting that Reflection is easy to dispense from the high-performance automix cartridges, Dr. Beno appreciates the different setting times, Regular and Fast Set, and the variety of consistencies—Heavy Body, Medium Body, Light Body, and Monophase. He found the light- and medium-body viscosities particularly beneficial with denture and reline impressions.

When more working time is needed, Reflection’s Regular Set option allows up to 2 minutes with another 3 minutes to set. For quicker results, the Fast Set formulation has a working time of 1:15 and a setting time of 1:30. For Dr. Beno, “Reflection Fast Set reduces working and setting times and allows for increased efficiency with all impressions.”

Precision in Every Pour

Designed to produce accurate impressions with-out distortion, Reflection is highly thixotropic with exceptional elastic recovery and reproduction in moist conditions, especially in subgingival and inter-proximal areas. The material stays in position without running, slumping, or dripping during the working process yet flows freely when seating the tray.

Experiencing these benefits firsthand, Dr. Beno called it “a high-quality material that captures all necessary details with a single impression.” Praising Reflection’s predictability, he added, “It consistently produces the accurate results needed for a well-fitting final restoration.”

Overall, Dr. Beno concluded, “Patterson’s Reflection VPS impression material provides the quality results we demand, while creating a better experience for the patient.”
