Overview

This course reviews the principles and clinical application of interproximal reduction (IPR) for creating orthodontic space, managing tooth-size discrepancies, and improving tooth shape and contacts. Topics include tooth anatomy, enamel thickness, periodontal considerations, treatment planning, measurement, instrumentation, finishing, and polishing. The course also explores the evolution of IPR instrumentation and introduces smartIPR, a contemporary oscillating-disk approach designed to provide controlled, progressive interproximal reduction.

By attending this webinar you will learn how to:

  • Identify indications and contraindications for IPR and determine appropriate locations and amounts of enamel reduction.
  • Evaluate tooth anatomy, enamel thickness, tooth shape, and periodontal considerations to plan safe and effective IPR.
  • Compare IPR instrumentation and techniques, including strips, burs, rotating disks, reciprocating systems, and oscillating disk technology.
  • Apply a systematic approach to controlled IPR, including contact opening, progressive reduction, measurement, recontouring, finishing, and polishing while minimizing common complications.
