Overview
Join oral cancer coach Susan Cotten, BSDH, RDH, developer of The Cotten Method™ of Screening, for this intensive program designed to elevate and calibrate the standard of screening in dentistry. Both dental hygienists and dentists play an important role in early detection, yet there is a critical gap in screening and “what we know now” about oral and oropharyngeal cancer.
This course breaks down the components of a comprehensive visual and tactile, extraoral, and intraoral evaluation. Attendees will learn proper extraoral palpation, the importance of identifying lymphadenopathy, evaluation of the thyroid gland and the oropharynx. ADA and ADHA oral cancer policies and coding will be reviewed.
A comprehensive oral and oropharyngeal cancer screening, head and neck evaluation isn’t optional – it must be done. Let’s close the gap together, elevate the standard of care in screening, reduce liability risk, and increase early detection.
By attending this course, you will gain actionable insights on how to:
- Execute a comprehensive visual and tactile, extraoral and intraoral evaluation.
- Define lymphadenopathy and its clinical significance in early detection of head and neck cancers and systemic disease.
- Summarize the stage distribution of oral cavity and oropharyngeal cancer cases.
- Locate the thyroid gland and perform a thorough assessment.
