Celebrating 75 Years of Outstanding Innovation

From the tried-and-true Blu-Mousse and Brush&Bond comes the next generation of Parkell products designed to meet the evolving needs of dental professionals

Businesses built on customer trust, product consistency, and ongoing innovation almost always result in longevity. That’s proven true for Parkell, which has been designing, engineering, manufacturing, and servicing dental materials and devices for 75 years.

Carl Parker and Alex Mitchell (hence the name Parkell) founded the company in 1948 with an eye to providing dentists with reliable products designed to enhance patient care and aid practice efficiency. For 65 years, the company operated as a family-owned business. In 2016, Parkell combined forces with Directa Dental of Sweden. Working with a large network of distributors, the company now sells its products in over 60 countries. “Our mission is to work even closer with practicing dentists to identify ongoing challenges and needs, and to work collaboratively to come up with innovative solutions,” said Parkell’s president David Mott.

Those solutions include—but certainly aren’t limited to—ultrasonic scalers, bite registration and impression materials, and a range of restoratives, cements, and bonding agents. Some of these products are recent successful innovations designed to streamline processes and meet new clinical demands, while others dentists have turned to repeatedly over the years because they reliably meet operatory needs.

Tried and True

Parkell’s many legacy products include Blu-Mousse bite registration material, Dryz gingival retraction paste, Brush&Bond bonding system, C&B Metabond catalyst and adhesive cement, Cinch impression material, SNAP self-cure resin, and SmarTemp temporary crown and bridge material.

Dryz Blu, the newest iteration of the well-known and effective gingival hemo- static retraction paste, is especially stiff to improve tissue displacement when it’s inserted subgingivally using a compression cap or cotton roll. In addition, the cord’s blue color aids visualization. When Dental Product Shopper evaluators tried Dryz Blu, they praised its ease of use and color contrast. They also rated patient comfort highly, giving it a score of 4.5 out of 5. “The product was able to facilitate a crown preparation and scanning appointment without having to anesthetize the patient,” said Dana Blalock, DDS. “Overall, I think that it’s a great product, and I’ll be ordering more in the future.” Ultimately, the team of evaluators named Dryz Blu a Recommended Product.

Product Advancement

Parkell’s arsenal of new dental solutions includes the Predicta Bioactive family, Brush&Bond MAX dentin/enamel composite bonding system, and MucoHard+ denture reline material.

PREDICTA BIOACTIVE

The chemistry behind all the Predicta Bioactive products enhances the bond between tooth and restoration and continuously releases calcium and phosphate ions and recharges fluoride ions to help form hydroxyapatite, which protects margins and prevents microleakage.

Predicta Bioactive Cement is a self-adhesive, self-etching, dual-cure resin cement indicated for luting crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and posts (prefabricated metal/non-metal/fiber posts). It has outstanding bond strengths across a full range of indications, including zirconia, without the need for primers. It also contains MDP for strong bonds to zirconia. Predicta Bioactive Cement provides optimal viscosity and consistency for easy handling and easy cleanup. It is highly radiopaque and has a low film thickness for complete seating of restorations with no postop sensitivity. It is currently available in Translucent, A2, and White Opaque shades.

BRUSH&BOND MAX

After surveying dentists, Parkell discovered that many don’t feel confident using the scrubbing technique to apply a bonding agent. With that information in mind, the company developed the Touch Application, which takes scrubbing out of the equation. Using this innovative technique, clinicians touch the preparation surface with the moistened chemically treated Brush&Bond Activator Brush until the entire surface is wet and the material penetrates into the dentinal tubules. The goal: Ensure a high tooth–restoration bond while also minimizing post-procedure sensitivity.

MUCOHARD+

Products that can save patients and dental practices time and money, while also providing high-level care, always rise to the top of the must-have list. That’s true of MucoHard+ denture reline material, which can be used in the office for relines, repairs, and border additions to full or partial acrylic dentures. Engineered for patient comfort, this biocompatible, tasteless, and odorless material has a low exothermic temperature. And to ensure patient satisfaction with the final result, MucoHard+ sets to a color consistent with the shade of lab-processed base acrylics.

Committed to Customer Success

For 75 years, Parkell has been building relationships with dental professionals, beginning when they’re students. “Parkell’s commitment to the dental community has never been stronger,” said Mott. “It’s our connection to the dental community and our focus on quality that has gotten us to 75 years. We know that customers place a high level of trust in Parkell when using our products, and we work tirelessly to honor that trust by delivering only the best possible products and services.”
