ClearPilot 5.0: Where Speed Meets Control

ClearCorrect’s newly released ClearPilot 5.0, along with the optimization of bite ramps, offers clinicians enhanced tools for more control and increased efficiency

Who doesn’t like choices? The probable answer is no one, and most of the time, the option to choose from a selection of products and instruments is a good thing. But especially in dentistry, choosing a clear aligner system from a field of many can be a difficult and time-consuming decision. For Dr. Daniel Neves, an orthodontist in Curitiba, Brazil, the decision was easy—he chose ClearCorrect several years ago.

“ClearCorrect built a factory here in Curitiba several years ago, and I thought I’d try their aligners to see if they would fit my needs and accomplish the movements and objectives I was looking for,” Dr. Neves explained. “I was impressed with my fi rst ClearCorrect cases, and now, 100% of the clear aligner treatment in my office is done with ClearCorrect,” he explained.

Dr. Neves said his decision to use ClearCorrect aligners came down to 3 features: material, software, and add-on features.

Made of state-of-the-art, trilayer, third-generation aligner material called ClearQuartz, ClearCorrect aligners are renowned for their clarity, flexibility, tearand stain-resistance, and ability to provide sustained force. Their unique design features an unscalloped trim line that extends past the gingival margin, which results in less need for attachments and a tighter, more comfortable fit for patients.

“I rely on this material to deliver the appropriate pressure to the teeth and achieve the movement I need for a successful outcome,” he said.

Newly Released ClearPilot 5.0

ClearPilot 5.0 is a web-based, user-friendly treatment planning software that's continually improved upon for up-to-date software at clinicians' fingertips.

“ClearCorrect is continually adding updates to the ClearPilot software, which gives me confidence that they are constantly working to be at the top of technology and innovation,” Dr. Neves said.

Moving Multiple Quadrantsa closer look at clearpilot 5

With ClearPilot 5.0, clinicians can now control teeth not only individually, as with ClearPilot 4.0, but as a group of teeth moving at the same time.

“ClearPilot 5.0 provides guidance for multiple quadrants at the same time, as well as applying torque, which is a very important treatment with clear aligners,” Dr. Neves explained. “Another new feature is that ClearPilot 5.0 indicates where predictable movements, moderately predictable movements, and less predictable or unpredictable movements are located," he said.

Also new are colored, visual guidelines, which were not available in the previous version, Dr. Neves explained. “Red triangles connote difficult movements and yellow triangles alert us to moderately predictable movements, and these visual cues advise us of challenges," he said.

Another tool available with ClearPilot 5.0 is a collision feature that details in parts of a millimeter how tight a contact point is—a valuable tool for cosmetic dentists or prosthodontists who might be planning a tooth augmentation.

Optimized Bite Ramps

A recently launched add-on feature for ClearCorrect aligners, bite ramps are thermoformed protrusions in the aligner that hold the arches out of occlusion and prevent the opposing arch from interfering with the tooth movements needed to treat deep bites and crossbites. Bite ramps work by creating premature contact in the anterior region, which then takes the posterior teeth out of occlusion and removes unwanted posterior bite forces. This allows other corrections to proceed as planned.

“The addition of these bite ramps helps clinicians treat what we call ‘deep bites,’ where the upper teeth are covering the lower teeth too much,” Dr. Neves explained. “For deep bites, this is a valuable resource.”

Overall, Dr. Neves believes that using ClearCorrect aligners benefits parties on both sides of the chair.

“Before using ClearCorrect, I had difficulty controlling upper lateral incisors," Dr. Neves explained. "Now, I’m able to control those incisors more effectively, and because of the retention, I use fewer engagers. This equals less chair time for me and more one-on-one time with my patients.”
