They seldom make the headlines and rarely generate a lot of excitement. They also don’t "break the bank" and are never among the pricier components occupying dental supply cabinets. But gloves always top the list of essential components when it comes to infection prevention and efficient workflows. Why?

“A quality pair of gloves is extremely critical for several reasons,” said Jessica Raymond-Allbritten, CRDH, BASDH, who practices in Dunedin, FL. “Well-performing gloves enable us to provide the highest level of tactile sensitivity while also allowing us to work efficiently and safely.”

Having worked as a hygienist for over a decade, Raymond-Allbritten has always struggled to find well-fitting gloves. She recently began using the Soft White Nitrile TQ-601 from Ansell’s Microflex line of ultra textured, protective gloves. Available in both full and half sizes to expertly fi t every hand, the thin and lightweight gloves offer heightened tactility and feature Hydrasoft Skin Moisturizing Technology, which is proven to help skin retain 2x more moisture.*

“The fit was amazing,” Raymond-Allbritten shared. “I am a ‘smedium’ size because most medium gloves are too large and most small gloves are too tight, so it was a huge plus to discover that these gloves came in half sizes.”

It’s a sentiment shared by Kipp Klein, DDS, who practices in Liberty, MO. “This glove left my hands feeling moisturized and comfortable,” he shared. “Even with the inner coating, there was no reduction in my tactile sensation.”

Ergonomic Fit, Superior Dexterity

Another popular option, the Microflex Ultraform UF-524 offers dexterity and comfortable hand protection with an ergonomic design. Available in full and half sizes, the Ultraform UF-524 glove features the company’s unique Ergoform Technology for musculoskeletal health, and includes a thin, soft design for superior tactility and comfort.

“The UF-524 performed well and was very comfortable to wear,” Dr. Klein said.

Raymond-Allbritten agreed, noting that the glove material allows her to better hold instruments. “In the end, I believe providing the best patient care starts with the gloves, because in order to do anything as a hygienist, you first have to put on your gloves,” she concluded.
