AADOM and its Dental Spouse Business Network support dental office managers through a wealth of administrative-based resources and a prospering professional community
When Rosanne Kassab-Perno first took on the role of office manager in her husband’s private practice, Voorhees Family Dentistry in Voorhees Township, NJ, she had to brave a considerable learning curve while on the job. “It’s a unique situation being a dental spouse and the office manager, and it has its own set of challenges,” Kassab-Perno said. “My husband taught me everything I needed to know at the time, but as they say, 'you don't know what you don't know.'"
Now, with nearly 4 decades of office management experience under her belt, she is grateful to be involved in the American Association of Dental Office Managers (AADOM) and its Dental Spouse Business Network. “I have discovered so much to help our practice administratively through AADOM’s learning modules and the community of like-minded dental spouses who want to grow and do their jobs better,” she said. “Whether you are a newbie or have been in the role for a long time, AADOM gets you excited about dental office management again!”
Administrative Support and Wisdom
Expanding on AADOM’s commitment to providing its professional community with exceptional support, continuing education, and resources, the Dental Spouse Business Network connects those who double as dental spouses and office managers, so they can help one another with their shared knowledge and experience.
“When I would go to the Academy of General Dentistry meetings with my husband, there were very limited administrative courses,” Kassab-Perno said. “AADOM’s courses have been extremely helpful.”
Kassab-Perno serves as the vice president of the Southern New Jersey AADOM Chapter and recently earned her Diplomate (DAADOM) designation, the most advanced program offered by AADOM.
She added that her continued participation in AADOM and the Dental Spouse Business Network helped her find more effective ways to speak to patients, familiarize herself with additional dental terminology, and even add dental intelligence to her practice, which has significantly improved their regular communication methods.
“One of the benefits of the Dental Spouse Business Network is having relationships with and being guided by people who completely understand what you are facing,” Kassab-Perno said. “It has been the greatest support system.”
Personal and Professional Success
“Our jobs are so much more than answering the phones and scheduling appointments,” Kassab-Perno emphasized. “Rather than being thrown into the fire like I was in the beginning of my career, AADOM and the Dental Spouse Business Network offer its members useful tools and connections. It is like a family that lifts you up both personally and professionally.”
She concluded, “I would tell any dental spouse who doesn't know about AADOM that they need to join. There is no reason not to be a member. Everyone there really cares about you and your practice’s success, and today’s dental management team members are lucky to have that.”
