Dentsply Sirona: Solutions for Streamlining Your Restorative Workflow
Dentsply Sirona's DPS Best Products include key players in the Class II Total Practice Solution and materials that bring more efficient clinical outcomes and bottom-line results.
As dental practices set a course to fully rebound from the pandemic, they need to rely on products that bring the most efficient clinical outcomes and bottom-line results—those that create healthy practices through healthy smiles. DPS evaluators who have reviewed and given Best Product ratings to Dentsply Sirona products spanning the operatory will tell you that these innovative materials do just that. In fact, the company's portfolio is designed to enhance safety and the patient experience, treat more complex cases through procedural expansion, and optimize time with patients by improving efficiency.
While Dentsply Sirona has long been known as the leader in transformative dental technologies, its DPS Best Products also reveal that the company has revolutionized the clinical workflow.
Tried-and-True Tools for Class II Success
With Class II procedures accounting for almost half of direct restorations, Dentsply Sirona has developed a comprehensive approach that brings simplicity and predictability to these restorations. Each product in the company’s Class II solution offers an innovative and proven approach to the steps of the procedure. So, it's no surprise that DPS evaluators have given top honors to several of these products.
“The consistent results and dependability of these products allow for an efficient workflow in my restorative procedures."
- Adam Beno, DMD; Fort Myers, FL
The most challenging part of a Class II restoration, for many clinicians, is contact creation. The Palodent matrix systems—Palodent Plus and Palodent 360—provide accurate contacts and natural contours at your fingertips without bulky equipment, obstructions to your space, or extensive interproximal finishing. Ideal for most Class II restorations, the easy-to-use Palodent Plus sectional matrix system features anatomically shaped matrix bands and adaptive self-guiding wedges that provide predictable, tight contacts and restorations that accurately replicate natural tooth anatomy. Even when clinicians are up against wide cavities and missing cusps, Palodent Plus delivers a tight seal around the restorative field.
Dr. Adam Beno has enjoyed using many Dentsply Sirona products over the years, relying on their durability and dependability. “I choose to use Palodent Plus because the bands and wedges stay in place and hardly ever slip or come off,” said Dr. Beno, who has used the sectional matrix system for the past 5 years.
Dr. Eyad Haidar, a DPS evaluator from Weston, MA, enjoys using Palodent Plus, as well. “I like the completeness of the system; it adds more to the convenience,” said Dr. Haidar. “You can predictably achieve tight contacts.”
Filling and Curing
SDR flow+, which is the next generation of DPS Best Product Surefil SDR flow, combines the benefits of a flowable composite with the physical advantages of a bulk-fill material—including filling up to 4 mm without the need for manipulation. As the first bulk-fill flowable material that self-levels, it achieves up to 40% time savings over the classic layering technique.
Dr. Paul Bylis uses SDR flow+ for his Class II restorations because it's a smart choice on both sides of the chair. "This is a can't-live-without-it material that makes your life easier as a clinician and is better for your patients," he said.
More recently, Dentsply Sirona introduced another groundbreaking restorative material for cases that are challenging due to isolation control, patient compliance, or subgingival margins. In these situations where composites are not the material of choice, the new Surefire lone offers an ideal alternative by providing the convenience of a glass ionomer with the durability of a composite. This first-ever self-adhesive composite hybrid, which has an unlimited depth of cure, is available in five shades: Bleach White, A1, A2, A3, and A3.5.Using a reliable curing light that produces a complete cure is key to ensuring the long-term success of a restoration. The SmartLite Pro pen-style curing light is designed to ensure adequate energy delivery to the base of the restoration thanks to state-of-the-art LED optics and interchange-able 360° rotational tips for a variety of indications. Dr. Thomas Walker, a DPS evaluator from Trussville, AL, shared, “The light definitely cured the composite quickly and effectively, and the intensity of the light will satisfy any doubts of a depth of cure question.”
Dr. John Horn agreed. "The large diameter tip ensures the whole restoration is being cured...The SmartLite Pro hits all the marks for a curing light that a general dentist can trust.”
Advanced Adhesion
When it comes to the efficiency of another major restorative workflow, the seating of crowns, the self-adhesive resin cement Calibra Universal is a standout favorite among DPS evaluators. Versatile and easy to use, this 2-component, dual-cure cement com-bines esthetic shades with a self-etch-ing adhesive—making it suitable for cementing a variety of materials.
Dr. David Martin of Totowa, NJ, has been using cements in the Calibra family for years. “I find Calibra Universal to offer easy cleanup and insertion with no need for a bonding agent,” shared Dr. Martin. “This material has good flowability to allow full seating of the restoration and has given me reliable results with no temperature sensitivity."
At the end of the day, an efficient workflow means a more productive practice and better patient experience.
