MOE KATZ, DDS

Dr. Katz is a general dentist based in New York City, where he owns and operates Katz & Pfeffer Dental Studio. He received his training at New York University College of Dentistry and completed his residency at the VA Medical Center in New Jersey. Dr. Katz is dedicated to continually advancing his skills and knowledge in dentistry to ensure successful outcomes for his patients. In his practice, he has created an environment where the patient and their unique needs are the focus while he utilizes the latest technologies to meet their goals. He is also a key expert for DEXIS. Outside the office, Dr. Katz enjoys spending time with his wife, young son, and golden retriever, as well as hiking, exploring nature, playing guitar, and connecting with friends.

In today’s fast-paced dental practices, any solution that provides peace of mind for practice teams is immediately invaluable. For Dr. Moe Katz and the team at Katz & Pfeffer Dental Studio, the new DEXIS Ti2 sensor fits the bill. With twice the durability1 of its predecessor, this next-generation sensor delivers the consistent image quality expected from DEXIS, while incorporating 2D AI Dental Findings, CleanCapture™ technology, and proactive sensor monitoring via DEXIS Complete. Here, Dr. Katz explains how these new and improved features have impacted his imaging workflow and patient care.

Early in my career while I was working as an associate dentist, I was fortunate to be employed in many practices that made digital dentistry the bedrock of their workflows. While some of these offices were using DEXIS imaging systems, others were not, and as I became exposed to other sensors available in the marketplace, I started to realize how much I took the DEXIS sensors’ image quality and durability for granted.

As a new dentist, I assumed that once the sensor was placed properly in the patient’s mouth, acquiring a radiograph would be as simple as snapping a photo on my smartphone. But while using some sensors, I had trouble identifying shadows and smudges as distortion or pathology. These factors contributed to a layer of doubt in my work, which slowed me down and made me more hesitant to trust my clinical instincts. After multiple failed attempts to acquire an image at times when I needed it the most, I felt extremely stuck and frustrated.

Now that I have my own practice, I am happy to be using the DEXIS Ti2 sensor with my patients. Coming back to a DEXIS imaging system was a major relief and confidence booster, and the Ti2 continues to deliver great imaging quality every single day.

Reliably Clear Radiographs

Treatment planning and diagnosis is only as good as the information it’s based on. The Ti2 sensor not only gives me the information I need to make good clinical choices during procedures, but the consistency of its image quality definitely helps us reach a clear understanding of what treatment patients need. It’s like night and day from my previous sensor. Before, it seemed more challenging to visualize decay and bone loss, and I couldn’t navigate a root canal with confidence. The Ti2 sensor, on the other hand, is precise and provides my team with crisp, high-quality images that we know we can rely on. We use these images as a roadmap during both diagnostics and treatment.

Seamless Integration, Accurate Diagnostics

The integration of the Ti2 sensor with DEXIS Imaging Suite software also is seamless. Acquiring, mounting, and viewing images has been simple and easy for us, and access to 2D AI Dental Findings has added another dimension of support to our diagnostics and treatment planning, as it automatically identifies periapical radiolucency, bone loss, calculus, caries, discrepancy at margin of existing restoration, and root canal filling deficiency.

When reviewing a full-mouth series, my eyes tend to focus on the biggest issues first, and I immediately begin discussing them with the patient. But sometimes, I catch myself overlooking subtle concerns in other areas. The 2D AI Dental Findings help me visualize these details more clearly from the start. Then, I am aware of all the elements that I need to address with the patient—without getting off track or forgetting anything important.

Patients love seeing the technology being used this way, too. Patients who work in technology are particularly happy to see these AI advancements being leveraged in dentistry, especially for their own personal benefit. It has been a wonderful aide in covering more topics with my patients that help them better understand their oral health.

Focusing on Patient Care

Pairing the Ti2 sensor with the DEXassist solution2 also has been an excellent tool for many of our perio patients, especially when identifying calculus and evaluating bone loss levels. The clarity of the images has helped us assess the degree of disease progression, and the AI displays these findings without any extra effort needed on our end. It allows our efforts to be fully focused on how to rectify the issue or issues at hand.

DEXIS Connect Pro3 further ensures our workflow efficiency with the Ti2 sensor by monitoring the health of our DEXIS sensors and automatically picking up on any issues with the equipment. If problems arise, the solution will proactively send a service ticket to DEXIS support to resolve the issue.

So far, I have not received any notifications for service tickets, but I like the idea of not needing to initiate or send a service ticket, and see it as a great way to save valuable time. The Ti2 sensor offers my team great peace of mind, and we don’t plan on switching anytime soon.
