Safety First
The KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 Handheld x-ray system incorporates two innovative features to ensure safety for the patient and the user within the treatment area. A unique acrylic shield protects against scatter radiation. Additionally, the x-ray tube is encased in a proprietary internal housing to block radiation leakage.

Save Time
“The best thing about it is the speed,” shared Dr. Charles Kattuah, a general dentist in Marysville, CA. Once a staff member becomes adept at using it, a full-mouth series can be done fast and efficiently, he added.
Dr. Kattuah noted that the control screen is easy to read and adjust, and the battery charge lasts a long time. “My hygienist, who works exclusively in one of my ops with a wallmounted unit, prefers the NOMAD, hands down,” he said.
Enhanced Diagnosis
Image quality is critical for accurate diagnosis. KaVo NOMAD Pro 2 incorporates state-of-the-art x-ray technology—a 0.4 mm focal spot plus a 60kV DC x-ray generator. This combination consistently delivers precise, repeatable exposures.
Additionally, the ability to change image capture settings and trigger the exposure at chairside may reduce retakes caused by the x-ray head drifting or the patient moved.

Dr. Kattuah said, “In 2014, I remodeled all my ops, and more storage space was a top priority. There was an x-ray tube mounted on the wall in each existing op. In two of the four rooms, I replaced the wall-mounted x-rays with cabinetry—with the intention of using a portable device if I needed to take x-rays in those ops. That turned out the be the right decision in terms of cost and efficiency.” KaVo customer surveys have shown that one NOMAD Pro 2, compared with multiple wall-mounted units, can service up to four treatment rooms without any changes in scheduling or chair time.
Special construction requirements, such as wiring and installation, are not required with a KaVo NOMAD Pro2, minimizing additional costs and time. Furthermore, KaVo provides comprehensive training literature and videos, so the system is ready for use right out of the box. “For myself, there wasn’t much of a learning curve,” Dr. Kattuah noted. “That was the case for my staff, as well.”
