ePrescribe
Fill prescriptions quickly and conveniently while ensuring compliance with applicable state mandates
For many dental practices and their patients, the use of electronic prescriptions is simply quicker and more convenient. It’s a solution that saves patients time by sending prescriptions directly to their preferred pharmacy—a modern alternative to handing them a piece of paper so they can drop it off and wait, or worse, misplace it. But speed and efficiency are no longer the only reasons to begin prescribing electronically. For many practices, it also brings compliance with state law.
A growing number of states now require electronic prescriptions for controlled substances (EPCS) as they seek both to curb fraud and ensure the safety of patients. As of April 2020, more than a dozen states had EPCS mandates in place, while many more had future effective dates or proposals. The regulations are the result of a national campaign to stem the misuse of opioid prescriptions. The private sector also is jumping on board, with some major pharmacies now requiring prescriptions to be submitted electronically.
Putting Safety First
Henry Schein One ePrescribe provides dental practices with the tools they need to comply with these laws while taking extra measures to ensure safety and convenience for their patients. For example, when a prescription is written with ePrescribe, the service automatically checks for drug-to-drug interactions, prior adverse reactions to a drug, duplicate therapies, and dosage errors. While the dentist is writing a prescription, he or she can pull in a report from state Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs for a view into the patient’s prescription history with other providers, offering a complete view into the use of medications including controlled substances.
Easy and Efficient
Using ePrescribe, the prescriber can quickly calculate dosing using a dosage calculator and send prescriber notes to the pharmacy with prescription submissions. Providers also can use the patient’s specific location, insurance, and benefit data to look up coverage and estimated prescription costs.
The web-based ePrescribe is easy to deploy, requiring no downloads or new hardware. While ePrescribe integrates with Henry Schein One’s practice management software systems—Dentrix, Dentrix Enterprise, and Easy Dental—dental practices do not have to use such software to subscribe to the electronic prescription service.
