The V20 Multi-Technology platform from Sinclair leverages radio frequency and light therapy to provide a variety of esthetic treatments and relief from facial pain

Valued at $5.6 billion, the U.S. facial esthetics market shows no signs of slowing down—not even during a viral pandemic, when the esthetics injectables market shrunk a mere 7%. While luxury spas may come to mind, there is a growing number of venues where one can seek esthetic treatment, including your dental practice. Botox and dermal fillers are the fastest-growing specialties in dentistry, as more and more patients are turning to their trusted dentists to perform these procedures. One such practitioner is Michael Sudit, DDS, a trainer for DentaSpa Seminars, which provides facial esthetic education designed for dental practitioners.

“I’ve been doing cosmetic dentistry since the day I got out of dental school,” said Dr. Sudit, who owns the Center for Smile Enhancement in Minnetonka, MN. “I remember thinking, if we’re creating these beautiful, masterpiece smiles for our patients, how can we not look at the lips and frame that smile? How can we not hang that smile on something that really fits?”

A Practice Builder That Makes Perfect Sense

Dr. Sudit started offering esthetic treatments to his patients back in 2008, bringing a cosmetic nurse on board to train team members and handle procedures below the neck. While he’d been intrigued by Sinclair products for a few years, he was sold after taking part in a TMJ and facial pain study that leveraged the radio frequency of the V-Series platform. “The results were absolutely phenomenal,” he said.

Today, Dr. Sudit uses the V20 Multi-Technology platform to alleviate facial pain and provide a variety of esthetic treatments to his patients. "In late fall and winter when patients are out of the sun, we use the V-IPL handpiece to do a fair amount of light therapy for age spots," he said. "It’s such an easy machine to work with and one of the most targeted devices I’ve ever seen. You can get to certain layers of the skin very easily, and you know exactly where you’re going.”

The V20 platform satisfies the most common patient treatments, including hair removal, skin rejuvenation and tightening, and acne clearance, which are facilitated by attachable handpieces. “To be honest, I would prefer to have a dentist doing these types of facial treatments because we spend so much time learning about the head and neck while in dental school,” said Dr. Sudit. “And, as general dentists, we have built-in patients right under our noses because we already treat them like we want them to come back, vs an endodontist who sees a patient once or twice for an unpleasant procedure and then never again.”

Dr. Sudit noted that while some dental products prove to be "toys" dentists don't really need, the V20 hasn’t been one of them. “It pays for itself very quickly,” he said, with the average practice generating $7,000 to $11,000 a month. “It’s truly adjunctive to what we do in terms of treating TMJ issues and facial pain, and when you throw in the other opportunities with facial esthetics, it makes perfect sense.”
