The Dentist Freedom Blueprint Podcast

In 2004, while his daughter was recovering from intensive surgery, Dr. David Phelps realized just how busy and overwhelming his professional life had become. He decided, then and there, to stop practicing dentistry. After investing in real estate and living off the capital assets he acquired, Dr. Phelps realized he had much more time to spend with his family.

On his podcast, The Dentist Freedom Blueprint, Dr. Phelps interviews industry- leading professionals on management, practice building, retirement, investing, and more—all with the intention of helping dentists carve out more time in their busy lives and personalize their wealth-building blueprints.

“The most common way that people lose their power is by believing they don’t have any.” This is a quote that Marilee Sears, founder and president of Marilee Sears Coaching and recent guest on Dr. Phelps' podcast, takes to heart. During her years of working as a temp for 73 different dental offices, she started to engage with practice owners on how they could streamline operations and become more efficient. The goal at each practice was to use her prior work experience—as a dental assistant, front office team member, hygienist, and practice manager—to help offices work smarter because, as she discusses on this podcast episode, working harder doesn’t guarantee financial success.

“I think the biggest thing we all look for is a meaning, a purpose, and an impact that we are truly creating,” Sears stated. “By the end of temping 100 days in a row…I felt like I owned my power in each of those practices.”
