Ultradent ushered in a new era of laser dentistry with the launch of the Gemini 810 + 980 soft-tissue diode laser in 2015, leading to greater practice efficiency and increased patient comfort and satisfaction. Today, with the Gemini EVO, Ultradent builds upon that success by offering clinicians even more power, versatility, and convenience.

Designed for Versatility

The Gemini EVO laser combines the benefits of the dual-wavelength design with a significant increase in power. The laser’s 100 watts of peak power—5x that of its predecessor—provide faster cutting, less heat, and ultra-clean incisions in soft tissue. The superpulsed power allows for a longer thermal relaxation period, which lets soft tissue cool better, reducing unwanted thermal damage while improving cutting speed and precision.

The 2 wavelengths of the Gemini EVO laser are unique in dentistry and mean that users can take advantage of 3 modes: 810 nm for optimal coagulation, 980 nm for optimal ablation, or dual-wavelength mode for the optimal combination.

Dentists can use the laser to perform a variety of procedures—from virtually pain-free periodontal therapy, bacterial reduction, and troughing for crown and bridge preparations to biopsies, frenectomies, and more.

“In my practice, we’ve used the EVO for just about everything!” Dr. Ron Kaminer said. Since every hygienist in his practice is laser certified, the EVO is often used in a variety of hygiene procedures, especially for control of periodontal disease. “The hygienists use the Gemini EVO diode laser to kill bacteria, reduce inflammation, and promote healing, all of which are significant advantages for our perio patients,” he said.

Photobiomodulation Therapy Made Easy

Dr. Ed Kusek shared that the Gemini EVO especially excels when used for photobiomodulation (PBM) therapy. Its 3 PBM adapters—3 mm, 7 mm, and 25 mm—allow clinicians to provide efficient pain management for a variety of intraoral and extraoral indications. “We all want to avoid giving our patients narcotics for pain relief, and with PBM, you can curtail the amount of postop pain your patients will encounter,” Dr. Kusek said.
