After nearly 40 years in the dental industry, Heather McEvoy has found the most effective way to clean instruments: SciCan's HYDRIM 112W G4+ automated instrument washer.

“If you’re scrubbing instruments or using an ultrasonic, it takes quite a bit of time to get everything processed," she said. "This is a lot quicker, and the instruments come out really clean and dry, every time. I love it.”

McEvoy, office manager/dental assistant at Upper Gage Dental Centre in Hamilton, Ontario, said the washer is “hands down” the best one she’s used. In fact, in the nearly 1,300 cycles run in the last year or so, there have been zero problems.

What’s Not to Love?

The HYDRIM 112W G4+ features a sleek, appliance-inspired design. Its front drop-down door provides easy access to the chamber, allowing staff to easily load and unload instruments.

The lower rack is designed with a generous capacity, accommodating multiple cassettes positioned at an angle for better water flow and thorough surface cleaning. The top rack has plenty of room for surgical and loose instruments, enabling organized placement and efficient cleaning.

“In a practice with 8 ops, having the capacity to process multiple cassettes alongside a fully loaded top rack of instruments is a major advantage," she said. "It really keeps everything moving efficiently."

McEvoy described the touchscreen as user-friendly and loves the LED status indicator that tells her where instruments are in the cycle. Anyone can see if the instruments are ready to be wrapped, and, if not, how much time is left in the cycle. The touchscreen provides helpful alerts for things like replacing the detergent or air filter and adding salt.

Cleaning is also simplified with HYDRIM 112W G4+, with easy water arm removal and convenient access to the filter.

Reliable and User-Friendly

McEvoy happily recommends this washer to colleagues. It’s reliable and user-friendly, and its smart features make maintenance a breeze.

“If anything lights up, you can say, 'Oh, the solution needs to be changed out, or there isn’t enough cold water, or the salt dispenser needs filling.' It all comes up on the screen. It tells you exactly what you need to do, and once you do it, it refreshes,” she said. "Everyone in the office really likes this unit. It's been a great addition to our office workflow.”
