Let There Be Eye-Safe, High-Intensity Light!

The A-dec 500 LED dental light requires less power for effective use, yet puts more power in the hands and eyes of practitioners thanks to a touchless on/off sensor and pure, white light

An essential requirement for any successful dental procedure is having a well-lit operating field—making a quality, reliable dental light a must-have piece of equipment. However, like any other dental tool or material used by dental professionals, no two dental lights are exactly the same.

“The A-dec 500 LED dental light has changed my opinion on dental operatory lights, as it is definitely brighter and scatters less than others I’ve used previously,” said Dr. Felipe Falcao, who has used the A-dec 500 in his Jacksonville, FL, practice for about 3 years. “This light simply can’t be compared to others. It is far superior.”

Dr. Kristin Mau from Brighton, MI, has been using the A-dec 500 LED dental light for around the same amount of time with similar success. “I prefer this light to the light I attached onto my loupes,” she said. “Not all our operatories are equipped with this light, and when I am in a different operatory, I often wish I had the same brightness. I make sure that certain procedures are performed in the operatory with the A-dec 500 light.”

Eye-Safe and Effective Illumination

The award-winning A-dec 500 LED dental light is designed to provide optimal lighting in the oral cavity, limiting shadows while alleviating eye fatigue for clinicians during treatments. With 3 light intensity settings of 15,000, 25,000, and 30,000 lux, part of what makes this dental light so extraordinary is its pure white light, which consistently measures in at 5,000 Kelvins for clean, balanced illumination.

“The natural, white light provides the best light I have used in practice,” Dr. Mau assured. “It comes in handy by providing a vivid natural light that reduces shadows.” Dr. Falcao said, “The high-intensity light doesn’t scatter like other lights, so I get more light in the patient’s mouth.”

Thanks to A-dec 500’s stadium lighting effect, the light emitted is well distributed with the clarity and reach that replicates sunlight. With that, the light ensures clinicians see and work with true-to-life tones and colors, further assisting with hard- and soft-tissue diagnostics. Dr. Mau said, “One of the benefits of the stadium lighting is that the light produced is brighter than any light I have used. I feel that my eye fatigue has improved due to this brighter, more natural light, too.”

Cure-Safe Mode

As color accurate and bright as the A-dec 500 LED dental light may be, its cure-safe mode is also ideal for working with light-cured materials, so clinicians face less of a race against setting times during procedures.

“In the past, I would use the cure-safe filter on my loupes and turn off the overhead lights, creating a dark environment for the assistants,” Dr. Falcao said. “Now, the assistants’ vision is as clear as my vision. The A-dec 500’s cure-safe mode keeps the entire mouth illuminated—whether I use the filter on my loupes or not.”

Wave On, Wave Off

With a 540° horizontal rotation in both directions, as well as a 120° head tilt and 80° diagonal adjustment, this dental light is highly adjustable to shine wherever a clinician needs light. Along with programmable buttons on a touchpad, the A-dec 500 has a touchless on/off sensor, which can be added to any existing A-dec 500 dental light.

“The different ways to control the light allow for an easier flow during the procedure, as we can use whichever option is more convenient to use at the time,” said Dr. Falcao, adding, “We generally use the touchpad for powering on and off, and we use the back of the light to change intensity and mode.”

Dr. Mau added the touchless sensor to her A-dec 500 last year. “The touchless feature is so simple, yet it still impresses patients,” she said. “It is quick and easy to use, and in these times, any touchless features are beneficial in maintaining a clean dental setting. I mostly use the touchless feature out of convenience, but it is helpful to have multiple control options for the light.”

A Long-Lasting ‘Smart’ Light

The light produces little infrared light and close to no UV emissions. Backed by a 5-year warranty and an expected lifespan of about 20 years, clinicians never need to worry about changing the bulb. Still, using about one-fifth the power a traditional quartz halogen light uses, the A-dec 500 LED dental light is over 20% brighter and consumes 75% less power than most halogen lights on the market.

With this low power use also comes no noise. No fan is needed, thanks to the A-dec 500’s unique passive cooling method. Plus, its LED design doesn’t radiate heat, so clinicians stay cool and comfortable during procedures. Dr. Falcao said, “The A-dec 500 LED dental light has taken our procedures to the next level by keeping the environment bright yet easy on the eyes for both me and my assistants.”

“I find that the light improves the confidence I have in routine practice,” Dr. Mau said. “It is especially helpful with esthetic dentistry, and the touchless feature allows for more effective use of the light. The A-dec 500 is truly the best dental light I have ever used.”
