LUNA

Ideal blend of esthetics and strength that makes it easy to create seamless margins and natural-looking restorations

Luna Universal Composite from SDIUniversal composites have become the cornerstone of modern restorative dentistry, and they continue to evolve to the point where one product may be all that is needed to provide the majority of direct restorations in the practice. Universal direct composites were developed to simplify the process of delivering highly esthetic and durable direct restorations, while reducing inventory and offering patients the most naturallooking restorations possible.

SDI’s Luna universal nanohybrid composite offers an optimal blend of strength and esthetics, which makes it ideal for both anterior and posterior restorations. Because filler particle size affects the esthetic and mechanical properties of composites, Luna is formulated with a hybrid of nano- and micronsized particles. Nano-sized particles enhance Luna’s polishability and help maintain surface smoothness over time, while micron-sized particles contribute to the material’s strength and durability.

Optimal Esthetics

Luna is available in 13 universal shades and 5 specialty shades—3 dentin, 1 incisal, and 1 bleach shade and its translucency facilitates a chameleon effect, enabling the composite to take on the shade of the tooth structure that surrounds the restoration. When exposed to ultraviolet light, Luna also displays the fluorescent characteristics and opalescent properties of natural tooth structure, creating a seamless margin between tooth and restoration.

Strength in Numbers

High flexural strength is imperative to ease the tension and compressive forces that teeth are exposed to in stress-bearing situations. This is especially true in Class I and II restorations where teeth are more prone to high forces. With a flexural strength of 136 MPa, Luna is ideal for use in stress-bearing areas and is designed to withstand the forces of mastication.

Along with a filler load of 77% by weight, Luna’s compressive strength is optimized through the use of a strontium glass filler and carefully selected filler loading, which helps enhance the longevity of restorations. Even with this combination of excellent esthetics and high flexural and compressive strength, Luna still maintains favorable handling properties that make it easy to create seamless margins and natural-looking restorations.
