Dental hygienists can expertly remove patients’ plaque, tartar, and bacteria buildup with precision and ease, yet their clinical skills and training are only a piece of the puzzle in achieving optimal results during patient care. It’s also the instruments in their hands.

“I have been practicing full-time clinical hygiene for 43 years, and I have used many ultrasonic inserts over 4 decades,” said Donna Grzegorek, BS, RDH, PHDH, FADHA. “Nordent’s new LuxPoint ultrasonic inserts are very impressive. They are extremely effective at removing calculus and biofilm, and they are superior in the areas of comfort, convenience, compatibility, accessibility, and most definitely tip durability.”

Dependable Durability by Design

“Tip durability is especially important to me, as it equates to a longer life of the instrument, less clinician fatigue, increased patient comfort, and improved return on investment,” Grzegorek emphasized. “The LuxPoint ultrasonic inserts check all the boxes.”

Featuring proprietary UltraSteel technology, LuxPoint ultrasonic inserts are designed to enhance performance with its consistent hardness and durable tips, which are expected to last over 50% longer than other industry-leading ultrasonic inserts.*

“Nordent has detailed research demonstrating the LuxPoint tip durability through SEM photos,” Grzegorek said. She also called attention to studies indicating that hygienists lose up to 25% scaling efficiency with 1 mm of tip wear and up to 50% efficiency with 2 mm of tip wear. “A longer lasting tip with dependable hardness allows a clinician to practice efficiently and effectively for a much longer time.”

A Handle on Comfort and Efficiency

Out of the 3 available LuxPoint ultrasonic inserts—Universal X-Slim, Universal Slim, and Triple Bend Slim—Grzegorek experienced significant success using the Universal Slim and Triple Bend varieties.

“I use the Universal Slim in many areas of the mouth. It is a workhorse for subgingival and interproximal access,” Grzegorek explained. “I also use the Triple Bend Slim for light to heavy deposits, but it is especially useful around line angles and more challenging interproximal areas. Its beveled edges really make it a great choice for more stubborn calculus, and it can be used reliably for orthodontic cement removal.”

Furthermore, the LuxPoint ultrasonic inserts have color-coded hexagonal grips that not only help clinicians easily differentiate one model vs another, but at the same time, they improve user ergonomics and tactility, too.

“I appreciate the color-coded hexagonal grips,” Grzegorek said. “They allow for fast identification and efficient tip changes intra-procedure, and they are very comfortable in my hand. The grips’ texture optimizes silicon-to-finger contact, which provides clinician comfort, facilitates tactile sensitivity and better control, and ultimately minimizes strain and maximizes productivity.”

Experience the Difference

Thanks to direct tip water flow, LuxPoint ultrasonic inserts limit unnecessary spray and offer better visibility, inherently enhancing the ultrasonic experience on both sides of the dental chair.

“Since using the LuxPoint ultrasonic inserts, I had patients—typically women safeguarding their makeup—comment that there was less overspray. Another patient who was typically very sensitive to ultrasonic scaling said that the procedure not only went more quickly but that there was less sensitivity than they had in the past,” Grzegorek shared. “In both cases, the patients appreciated the notable difference and felt the ultrasonic experience was less messy and took less time.”
