The recently evaluated Aquasil Ultra+ Smart Wetting Impression Material from Dentsply Sirona Restorative earned high marks from Dental Product Shopper evaluators for its ability to provide an accurate impression the first time. Larry Hubbard, DDS, of Statesboro, GA, a member of the American Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, calls Aquasil Ultra+ a “superior” impression material. Below, he explains why he became an early adopter:
DPS How does Aquasil Ultra+ compare to other impression materials you’ve used?
I find it superior and consistent. Some other materials I’ve used were inconsistent in set time and quality, and especially in viscosity. I just find that Aquasil Ultra+ is consistently the same product. It’s right on the money when it comes to set time; it works well. I find fewer distortions and bubbles with this material, and we’ve had very few separations when we remove the impressions—I can’t think of one. The tear strength is quite good and allows us to capture the marginal integrity. I’m usually able to get the impression on the first try, which is a big improvement.
DPS Does Aquasil Ultra+ improve the patient’s experience?
The fact that the Fast Set version is 2.5 minutes is great for the patients because no patient wants to sit there with an impression material in their mouth. We had a patient who was a gagger. We used the rigid viscosity and gave the patient the timer, and he was able to tolerate the impression. We were able to get it the first time. Also, the taste of the material is rather neutral and doesn’t tend to bother people.
DPS Do you have a helpful tip you can share?
Aquasil Ultra+ comes in several viscosities. When we’re using a triple tray, we use the rigid viscosity to get the bite registration, the opposing arch, and the impression all at one time. This is particularly useful for gaggers…Many times, people try to save money on cheaper products, but if you have to use your time to take the impression again, you’ve lost money. It’s better to use a premium product and get a premium result to deliver a premium crown.
